I wouldn't touch a Mercedes if after-purchase maintenance costs are something you're worried about. Or really any German car for that matter.

Sure, if your cash supply is endless and you want to spend it without thought, buy a luxury car and enjoy every mile out of it. I wouldn't say I have a surplus of cash. but until I'm filthy rich I see no need at all to throw money at the wind. Spending $20K on a car and $50k into a house is an investment. Spending $70k on a car is just dumb in my eyes unless it is something special, or again, I have all the money in the world.
Strike that, even if I had all the money in the world, I wouldn't waste it on cars, save for a 1932 Ford Roadster (which goes for about $40k).

I'd buy a fleet of Ford Probes and turn them all into bumper cars and build the worlds largest bumper car stadium.Luke wrote:

You and I could make this happen.RyaNtheSlayA wrote: I'd buy a fleet of Ford Probes and turn them all into bumper cars and build the worlds largest bumper car stadium.
True story, my Father passed on a Probe GT for an Escort GT (decades ago) and told me "Great car, dumb name. With the money I saved, I'm taking you to Disney Land".
Smart choice.
Re: Help with purchasing a new car
All the after sale service prices is scaring me.
What would you suggest for a car in the same class/category?
I am not looking for a Corolla.
@Luke
Where do they sell $50k houses? I am interested.

Alternatively, if you can afford it, BMW offers full maintenance plans with their vehicles. I certainly would buy a BMW over any Mercedes or Audi. I almost DID buy a 330ci Sport myself so perhaps I'm a bit biased on that front.
If you don't mind going a bit older and used, an Acura CL-S is a great car. Very much on par with the 330ci Sport but at a much lower cost.

Re: Help with purchasing a new car
I'd rather buy a shitty one for around 5,000 and do the work myself. Anything over $20k is too damn much for a car. Hell, yesterday I could have bought an 80's model F100 for around 600 flat, and all the work it REALLY needed was a bit of rear end work, which I could have done in the yard with a blowtorch and a welder. Would've looked like crap, but it runs.Luke wrote: Strike that, even if I had all the money in the world, I wouldn't waste it on cars, save for a 1932 Ford Roadster (which goes for about $40k).
I'm not big on "luxury" cars. I'm a bit of a gearhead, I'd rather go into a junkyard and build a rat rod out of pieces than buy a brand new Lexus or some crap.
