I do not think that I missed the context. He said that he knew someone who was paid to defend criminals and that this person had successfully defended some individuals that were not "very clearly not guilty". You said that this person did not have a conscience because he had been paid to defend - sometimes successfully - people that might have committed crimes. I responded that these people have a difficult - and often despised - job that is nonetheless necessary to the proper functioning of the United States justice system.

I practice law ethically, but like many lawyers, I do so to provide for my family, pay my mortgage, and pay off my student loans. Hopefully, this does not make me a bad person.
D.D.D. wrote:True, most people who commit crimes are poor but then again, are also stupid. Don't break the law and you're likely not going to have many problems in life. Having something "planted" on your or in your house, is another issue. Same thing though, if you break the law or attract attention to you in a bad way, something bad may happen, so maybe don't smoke weed etc.
I agree. Crime is bad, and if you commit a crime, the consequences may be severe.
D.D.D. wrote:I know enough how the US legal system works (to a fair extent - 3 lawyers in the family) and nothing you said is new. I still think the US legal system is messed up. Too many loopholes, too much leniency, and too bogged down by bogus lawsuits and people who just want to exploit it.
The United States justice system does not always achieve perfect results. Some innocent people are punished and some guilty people go free. Having some experience with foreign systems, however, I nonetheless think that the adversarial system remains the best justice system in the world.
D.D.D. wrote:Good for you to defend criminals. Keep up the good work.
As I stated in my post, I do not defend criminals. If I did, however, I would do my very best to represent their interests.

EDIT: I started my previous post with a rude comment. It has been removed, and I apologize for it. I should have merely started with my argument.

Agreed. Avoid HOAs like the plague. I do not know any one who has had a good experience with one.

I dislike them and like them at the same time. The can be very irritatng and many of times don't do much. However, they keep the neighbor from setting a ratty sofa on the front porch and having a junkyard out front. So it is nicethat they help uphold property values to an extent.

Or you could spend 5 minutes looking at the houses in the neighborhood to see if you have people who would do things like that. I totally agree with you fast on how terrible HOAs are. When I was house hunting that was an automatic no for me.

Yes and no. When I bought my home half the neighborhood wasn't built. Also, just because you have a good neighbor now, doesn't mean you will get a good replacement if they sell their home or rent it out...

prfsnl_gmr- do you have any tips on becoming a lawyer? I am more so interested in being a prosecutor but still. Also to the rest of you- Stop hating on him, he works for his money it's not being a douche protecting his clients just to get money he has already stated he does things in the best interests of the clients. You won't think defense attorneys are scum if you ever need one.

Thanks! Before you guys say omg your fourteen u know Byron about the law! My dad is a cop so he taught me some of it and I read a little about it and etc. I know several defense attorneys too- they are all nice people. They aren't shells of a man who are greedy; that is basically a stereotypical misconception.
