Metroid other M Strange prices! check it out
So im in gamestop and of course I have seen metroid other m for 5 bucks or ten which is a great price really anyone should pick this up regardless. Anyways I got my copy of the game but I noticed that went to both walmart and Bestbuy The game still sells for 50.00! What is this about?
IT it just a gamestop thing where they choose there own prices.
Basically if your looking for this game make sure to pick it up at gamestop. Also I know alot of people are all fussy about this title but it's actually quite a good game with fantastic gameplay. The story seems a little corney so far but still.

Nintendo hasn't changed the game's list price. Any store who chose to sell at a loss, did so intentionally.

Like theclaw said.
The big retailers like Walmart are content to let software rot on the shelves for a long time so they're less likely to sell it for a loss. My Walmart still has multiple Game Boy Advance games even.
Gamestop however has limited space since it tries to stock as many new and in-print games as possible along with the huge amount of space they need for their pre-owned stock, which is their priority because they make loads more money off of that than any new games they sell.
So when Other M is only commanding prices of around five dollars pre-owned because nobody wants it they can't really afford to have the new copies collecting dust on their valuable shelf-space. It makes more sense for them to just cut their losses.

Some people may throw a hissy-fit about the story (which, as far as video game stories go, is actually far better than the dross many vieo game fans hold in such high regard...), but I thought that it was a very fun game with very good graphics that played very similarly to Super Metroid on the SNES. It was a bit too linear at times - and unlike previous Metroid games - I felt like there was a hand on my back pushing me from point to point. I enjoyed the combat, however, and the boss battles were particularly enjoyable.dreamcast4ever83 wrote:I get it now make's sense. In any event, I paid far more than $5 for my copy of the game, and I definitely fel that I got my money's worth out of it. Enjoy!

Best Buy also twice last year dropped Metroid Other M to five bucks, maybe it falls under an overstock. Check out the price disparity on Kirby Epic Yarn. My local Gamestop reduced all the new copies to used only, yet the site still shows both SKUs.dreamcast4ever83 wrote:I got my copy of the game but I noticed that went to both walmart and Bestbuy The game still sells for 50.00! It really pays to shop around. Now where was that Video Game Price Chart thread?

VGPC'S PURPOSE IS NOT TO FIND YOU A DEAL. IT IS TO FIND THE AVERAGE MARKET VALUE OF A GIVEN GAME.
Re: Metroid other M Strange prices! check it out
I know, as stated before it is an average of only four sources and not the ENTIRE MARKET ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS. Just like that silly VGA grading that people use to inflate prices. Neither is not really a good assessment of what a game is really worth.AppleQueso wrote:For crying out loudCRTGAMER wrote:It really pays to shop around. Anyone who needs Kirby Epic Yarn should check out the "New" game at Gamestop now remerchandised as used.

Nor is a random sale price from a single retailer that's far below normal values. Gamestop is also completely useless for anything more than a decade old.CRTGAMER wrote:I know, as stated before it is an average of only four sources and not the ENTIRE MARKET ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS. VGA grading has nothing to do with anything.
Re: Metroid other M Strange prices! check it out
Any daily price is part of the daily current market value of a given game. I do agree on the VGA grading, it is silly and over inflated. However, it is in fact part of the market that some desperate or ignorant will pay. Just as Swap Meet prices and the Metroid M sale example at major retailers, ALL price information as much as possible should be compiled to give a true assessment. An impossible job but at least the major retailers should be part of the picture, especially when a game is on sale. Then VGPC will be a good one click source to get a better idea of a game's worth on a daily basis. VGPC is adequate, but could be a whole lot better.AppleQueso wrote:Nor is a random sale price from a single retailer that's far below normal values.
