RedRaider's Classic Console Collection
Re: RedRaider's Classic Console Collection
I grew up with a ColecoVision, which my parents still have and still works. Mine had those coiled springy cords for the control pads, though, not straight ones. Are those a mod or were there just variations in the models sold?
Re: RedRaider's Classic Console Collection
The controllers were modded. Coiled cords straightened and custom arcade style sticks added. Uncoiling the cords allows you to get a bit more length and the ball-sticks help out gameplay immensely.marurun wrote:I grew up with a ColecoVision, which my parents still have and still works. Took some quick pics of Vectrex Unit #1. I bought this unit off eBay a couple of months ago. It's purpose in life will be the daily gaming unit. Screen displays a excellent picture, nice sharp vectors. It was bought bare, without a joystick, but I got that covered already as you will see.
I gave this unit a proper through detailing job, boy was it dirty.

If you took these pics, then you are damn good.
I'd be curious to see your photography skills at photographing your entertainment center with everything set up.

Vectrex #2
This is how you properly package and ship a Vectrex

Of the three units in my possession so far, this unit is definitely the less aesthetic of the two. There were some white markings on the shell, that are just not able to be removed. This unit received RedRaider's complete detail job (which it needed in a bad way) and despite the looks is clean as a button.
Unfortunately, as with most all Taiwan manufactured models, this Vectrex suffers the dreaded image shift, which is down and to the left. I plan on re-centering the image when I have this unit opened up to be re-capped and have the hum-removal mod performed.
Enjoy...

Vectrex #3 (NISB-NOS)
Here is my precious. Have not decided if I am going to open this unit up or not. But I have definitely decided to buy one more sealed unit, that's for sure. The box is actually in damn good shape, considering it is 28-29 years old. Based upon the SN on the box, this is a Made in Taiwan unit, which means it was made close to the end of the Vectrex's production life.
Enjoy...

Cool. So I take it that it's another of your hobbies (anyone with any kind of home studio most certainly is in to it).RedRaider wrote:Thank you for the compliment and yes I take all my pictures in my very modest home studio.
