Ok. Well... that kinda sucks; not really the answer I was hoping for.
So me scoring well in this game is gonna basically be a bitch.

Easy to understand... extreamly difficult to do.
The trick is to know where you can chain without hypering, and hyper if your chain is about to break.

Ok. I noticed when you Hyper and use the rapid, it cancels enemy shots, and adds to your counter as well.

Indeed, this is how you build your counter, and there is no worry of instant counter drop in hyper. However, you aren't applying that counter until your hyper meter fills and is left at full. Its kinda funky

Re: DoDonPachi: Resurrection - High Scores

Thanks for the info, man.
Oh, so is there any hope of you getting in on V-V for STGT? Or are you SOL on that deal?
I just broke the PC pad I was using by picking it up while I apparently was sitting on part of the wire. Shit pulled halfway out the top of the controller and now it won't work. Fucking weak.

Re: DoDonPachi: Resurrection - High Scores
This game was really confusing at first. I don't know if I ever fully figured out the scoring, but it definitely gets easier to survive and score pretty quick.
I'm maxed on V-V I think. Finally got the extend...only to die 3 seconds later on my extra life.
I still haven't seen stage 3 boss. Maybe I just need more time, only about 2.5 hours into it, but I just feel like i'm not progressing nearly as fast as I typically would. I hit 212K on my very first run, and 5 days later only up to 310K. Your performance on this one is really damn impressive, Donnie.
We need you Chaz. Go to a buddies house for a day, just to get a score in.

Re: DoDonPachi: Resurrection - High Scores
Thanks. I just beat the Stage 5 boss recently, and I was fixing to get a session in tonight when I broke my pad. Ugh. Now I gotta get another one.
Yeah, I think if you spent a little more time on it, you'd see a good progression. Remember, I've probably sunk 30 or so hrs. into this one, so time vs. score ratio still isn't very good.

Re: DoDonPachi: Resurrection - High Scores
I think in a way CAVE (and other "new" stuff) has spoiled me.
I get bored too easily now and it sorta bugs me. I really really liked this game when I owned it (Grindstormer). But now, I feel like playing stage 1 is more of a chore since there really isn't much room to improve on score, every time I clear it i'm at 88-100K, so it isn't like if I play it "really really well" then I can exponentially increase my score. Whereas, in DDPR, if I have an ok stage 1, then i'm at 200mil, if I have a good stage 1, i'm at 350mil, if I have a great stage 1, i'm at 500mil, and that makes it fun each go round...the possibility to literally double your score if you play well.
On these old school shooters, they aren't really built for that...so I have to remind myself and appreciate them for what they are, but sometimes in our busy lifestyles, I get the "need more entertainment now" bug.
If my score is going to be one of our 4 submitted scores, then i'll def. try to put more time into it tomorrow. But sorta hoping Chaz or Ryan can post something nice. I know Chaz is pretty good at this one and would top my score on his first run.

Re: DoDonPachi: Resurrection - High Scores
Yeah, I see what you're saying.
It's like when I started playing Souky. I'd finish Stage 1 in the 400-500K range. In a few days, I was consistently finishing 800+, or even close to a mil, so I definitely get the allure of seeing your better efforts being rewarded sooner.
IDK, I tend to like the old-school stuff because they made it challenging without filling the screen with insane amounts of bullets, so pattern memorization doesn't come into play too much.
It's more of "here they come; whatcha gonna do?" Reaction and timing. That's where I tend to excel. I definitely am becoming more and more appreciative of games and the genre in general, and it's cool that there are so many others who share the same sentiments.

Well, spent an hour and took another shot at this; more than doubled my score.
Definitely starting to get the feel of when to use the hyper to keep my chain going.
Really liking this game; Cave is starting to grow on me.

I'll look for the Salamander 2 rom tonight and get crackin' tomorrow.
Oh Noise - In the words of the Invincible Bill Goldberg "You're Next".
EDIT: Apparently I already beat his score. Derp.
