Jogobox - Steam for "abandonware"

I like the idea, but I am curious to see how well it works, and what happens to it. Because some of the titles on it are readily available. Anyone play around with it yet?

A good buddy of mine fired it up and it sent calls to servers all over China and Africa, so he killed it and wiped it. It might be legit, but it sure looks shady.

I read about this service on RockPaperShotgun and it looks pretty good. The whole process is very smooth. I just downloaded, installed, setup, and got started playing Dune in a single mouse click.
Since you said it seems shady I'll run a malware scan and see if anything pops up.

EDIT: Do you think that perhaps the server calls to Africa and China are some sort of copyright evasion scheme? Not sure how that'd work, though.
