What Anime are you Currently Watching?/Anime Recommendations

Zeta Gundam is definitely my favorite. The original had its peaks, but overall I just loved Zeta and the tone. Most tell you to skip ZZ, but I still enjoyed it honestly, just don't expect Zeta 2. After that there's Char's Counterrattack, the movie that brings some big UC events to a close.

From there, there's a few UC OVA's you could check out. 0080 which a lot of people like, 8th MS Team, and 0083 which is kind of whatever, but has a crazy budget. But now there's Gundam Unicorn and to me, it definitely feels like the true successor to the original Gundam UC line. I've only seen two episodes so far (it's an OVA though), it definitely seems amazing.

I either love or hate Gundam it seems. I can't recommend Victory, Wing, or 00 a damn bit. SEED takes 90% of its plot points from the original... I'm indifferent to it, but it's just inferior to the original in every way to me. Pretty forgettable. Also has insanely bad animation/art.

For the Alternate Universe stuff, I loved X, G, and Turn A. Highly recommended.

Started watching Super Dimension Century Orguss.. if you like vintage Macross/Robotech I recommend this series.

Orguss is definitely pretty cool!

Check out Vifam if you want a good obscure 80's one that hardly ever gets mentioned. It's really good. And everything by Ryosuke Takahashi if you haven't... Votoms, Dougram, Galient, and Layzner will probably be legendary, but the subs are taking ages.

Gundam

So far (I haven't seen every Gundam series yet) the original is my favorite. Very charming and a great cast. Zeta is a really good series but oh my god it has some of the worst characters ever. That alone brings it down from greatness for me. Turn A is probably my second favorite Gundam series. (My true favorite Gundam series is G Gundam, but I don't really consider that a Gundam show...)

I thought 0083 was actually quite good, but something happened with the staff/director in the middle and the last few episodes make no sense and are completely random. So unfortunately due to those issues it went from being a very enjoyable bridge between the original Gundam and Zeta to being a confusing and somewhat pointless mess. I still liked it though because the first half was awesome.

Orguss

Orguss is awesome, I quite liked that one as well. As far as 80s mecha goes, so far Votoms is the king for me. I think I know someone here that will agree! I think the original Votoms series is the best 80s mecha has to offer, but, I feel that the Gundam meta-series is stronger overall and most of the Votoms spin-offs/sequels are kind of meh.

As for me, I'm nearly done with my first watch of Dragon Ball. I'm in the Piccolo Daimao arc. It's been quite the ride. I didn't like the Red Ribbon Army arc or episodic parts very much, but once the second Tenkaichi Budokai began things started getting great and the Piccolo Daimao arc feels like something straight out of DBZ, I love it. I plan on watching DBZ in it's entirety for the first time once I finish.

I'm really looking forward to ZZ Gundam; I heard the tone bounces back and forth between super-serious and super-goofy and that's something that sounds appealing to me. I'm also curious to check out 08th MS Team - from what I know, hardcore Gundam fans tend to not like it, but I've had multiple people recommend it so I want to give it a shot when I get to it. I'm trying to collect all the US releases of Universal Century stuff and G Gundam before it goes out of print. With Bandai dropping out of the industry, I have no idea how long these things will be available but it's probably safe to assume that it won't be relicensed any time soon (or ever).

I'm currently watching Gurren Lagaan.
I recommend it, Trigun (need to finish) and, Cowboy Bebop. That shit is amazing. I own the series but only part if the magma and I don't have te movie. (I've seen the movie it's great.)

Hayate no Gotoku I've been trying to get into anime pretty much all my life, and while I love the art, I just don't find the stories all that interesting. But then I found Hayate no Gotoku. It's a harem anime that can go from being sincere and heart-warming to balls-to-the-wall absurd in the blink of an eye. All the characters are "top tier", the jokes are so Japan-specific I have to strain my brain to get some of them (my kind of jokes ... and the best part, it's chock full of obscure video game references (the main character is an otaku/"unproductive member of society"). *the one downside is that season two just tanks. They get you hooked, and then it's like what is this shit, this ain't even the same show!?!?!?! It's like if Curb Your Enthusiasm all of a sudden changed into Small Wonder.

Yea.. I don't like much from Bones other than RahXephon. Ouran and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 are decent.

DTB was extremely overhyped to me, I remember going into it a few years back and everyone hailed it as one of the best shows out there (that's what I get for reading MAL forums back then). I'd take Bebop, Trigun, Black Lagoon, etc over it for sure. It's not bad but wasn't anything great to me. All I remember now are the Pizza Hut ads in every scene.
