Poor screen resolution on NES.

Post by captainsugartits »

So, I've recently obtained an NES and hooked it up. I noticed it had a very shitty screen resolution. At first I thought the games needed to be cleaned. Didn't work. Tried cleaning the 72 pin connecter. Didn't work. Tried different AV cables. Guess what? Didn't work. The problem isn't the TV either because all my other systems have a good screen resolution. Any ideas on how to fix it?

I'm having trouble understanding the problem.

The NES uses a standard 240p resolution like most 16 bit consoles. 256 horizontal pixels by 240 vertical pixels. You can't magically up that.

If you're suffering from poor picture quality... You only have a choice between RF and composite on the NES, which aren't exactly nice looking, especially after the connectors have aged for 20+ years.
Older. Not wiser.

I wasn't clear. I am using RCA cables and the picture is very dark. Sorry for the misunderstanding. :P

A pic might help indeed because the OP really sounds like he's kidding around.
And the TV type, CRT, plasma, LCD, will definitely help clear things up... um, unless it's an LCD or plasma on composite with a NES.

If you're used to the crystal clear picture you get with emulators, it's unfortunately not likely you're going to get a picture like that out of a real NES, and most modern TVs make it look worse.
