If I may chime in, almost everyone I know is absolutely adamant that Double Dash was the moment where Mario Kart reached perfection. Me and my friends play a lot of MK, and both the N64 and Wii versions are significantly less popular in our circle than Double Dash. It's simply the nonplusultra, the peak of the series.
I myself do very much appreciate the fact that the Wii version has a lot of different tracks from other versions of the game.

It's interesting that they included Viewtiful Joe which was on PS2 the same as Resident Evil 4.

As for Mario Kart, me and my friends still feel Mario Kart 64 is the pinnacle of multiplayer Mario Kart. It didn't overcomplicate things and although I really enjoyed the Gamecube and Wii versions, it was around when 4 player games were a regular occurrence with friends, although it may be because all my friends had N64s and didn't have Gamecubes.

What I think is weird (and highly suspect) is that so many RPG's made the list...made a top 10 of all time Gamecube list. Because that is what the Gamecube was known for: RPG's.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

As one of the resident gamecube fanatics I'm disappointed with this list. While what's on the list is good, what's absent is even more glaring.

Poor list. Whoever wrote it should have sense beat into them with a Gamecube, and then have that Gamecube be used to teach them all of the amazing games they didn't list for Gamecube.

A lot of people are hating on this list, so I'll come out and say it: I think this is a good list. There's lots missing, but it avoid too many of the most obvious choices, and it is only 10 games. They tried to choose something different, and good on them imo.

Boo hoo, Wind Waker isn't listed. How will people know that Zelda is a good game now!?

The little handle on the back should make the Gamecube an easy console to "weaponize"...

Before you go and assault anyone over an opinion piece:
The Best to Own Forever series isn’t about what’s great right now. It’s about what will be great in 10 years, even though there will be better-looking games and later sequels, and what will keep you pulling that dusty old console out of the closet every once in a while.
It’s also important to remember that these are the best games to own forever, but not the only good ones worth playing.

The article won me over with Lost Kingdoms II, great points RSG the writter did fill us in on that.

I understand everyone will have different opinions, but still feel it's a shame not to see Wind Waker, Metal Gear Solid, Tales of Symphonia, Luigi's Mansion, Rogue Squadron 2, and Resident Evil Remake on the list. All great games that haven't been outdone yet and will still be worth playing in 10 years!

(Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid have HD versions on other platforms that I haven't played, but my understanding is there are meaningful differences in gameplay. Luigi's Mansion will have a 3DS sequel eventually... but until that comes out we can't judge if it surpasses the original.)

But hey, you've got to pick a certain number of games, and you pick the ones you like right? Not sure what I'd remove to create a personal "10 best to own forever" list - probably drop Lost Kingdoms 2 for Tales of Symphonia, dump Kirby's Air Ride for Rogue Squadron, and switch out Paper Mario for... well, one of the remaining games I like. That still doesn't fit in all of my suggestions, but making cuts is hard.
