That was Wild Arms Alter Code: F that was the remake. Wild Arms 4 and 5 changes things a bit with the hex battle system. It is not bad but it is a bit diffrent.

I enjoy the Wild Arms series for its hybrid Wild West and High Fantasy setting, with a dab of Post Apocalyptic for good measure. But I have only played the first and third, so this may not apply to the whole series.

Anyway, progress report...which might not be a bad idea for a new RPG thread. I have reached the final dungeon, so I am going around and finishing up sidequests. I have reached level 20 migrant level and have opened up 319 chests. Currently I am fighting Black Box. I have finished the Adventure book quest, the Millennium Puzzle quest, and the traveling girl quest. I have 7 EX keys and have beaten a good chunk of the optional bosses. I need to beat the Ginner's Heaven competition, the Telepath Towers, and the Abyss. My characters are levels 71-75. I am also busy breeding plants at the Secret Garden, and I need to continue fighting the God of Revenge's cute little gingerbread men...at least that is what they look like to me. There is definitely getting to be less to do.

i have played most of the wild arms games (even the psp tactics game wild Arms XF) minus the 4th game. IMO, wild arms 2 is my top. but ps2 wise id say that wild arms 3 fits the setting the best. Wild arms 5 is crazy, like using a shovel as a pogo stick crazy. that said, if you can get past the cheesy attitude the game has and the sometimes rediclous things they do, you'll find a game that is actually quite fun. the battle system is great too but only really fully shines at boss battles, where you have to use more strategy then if you were fighting normal monsters.

So, I started over Mass Effect twice, and I finally decided to go soldier. I'm quite happy I did. For some reason, biotoics are horrible in the original. From what I've played of the second with friends, Vanguards absolutley stomped. Does not seem to be the case here.

Just finished Phantasy Star II. everything was going well until the end, where things got really grindy. It's a shame to, because the rest of the game wasn't horribly paced. Although it's a 16-bit RPG PSII really does play more like a simplistic 8-bit one. Overall it was an okay game. I'm looking forward to playing (PSIII?) PSIV and seeing how the series develops.

I've found the entire Phantasy Star II to be grindy, but that's probably because my obsessive RPG tendencies require me to get the best gear from the current shop before moving on to the next one. Also, whoever thought the massive amount of parallax ceiling pipes was a good idea needs to be drawn and quartered.

 I honestly hated the dungeon designs in general in this game. Most of them are multi-level labyrinths with a million staircases and dead ends. I frequently skipped certain sections of gear in this game, especially if the massive price of the next item turned out to give a measly extra +5 to defense or something.

The first three Phantasy Stars are all pretty grindy/slow... but the fourth one makes up for it so much.

I'm really looking forward to the fourth one, I'm hoping I can get ahold of it before I go back to school.
