Favorite system to play original GameBoy games on?

Post by kelsoanim »

I'm curious what everyone's favorite system to play original GameBoy games on is. Vote and let everyone know why in a reply. Personally I go between the GameBoy Advance SP and the GameBoy Pocket. I prefer the larger screen that you get on the GameBoy Pocket but I use the SP when I don't have enough light. I'd really just like to have a GameBoy Light system as it would be the best of both worlds.

Some original GameBoy games are enhanced on the Super GameBoy. Not just with a unique border, but more color info for the game. Pokemon Red/Blue comes to mind. If you play it on the GCN's GB Player or on a GBA, you'll just get 4 colors. If you play it on the Super GB (or Pokemon Stadium) you will be treated with more than 4 colors (all Pokemon will have correct colors, water is always blue, HP bar goes from green to yellow to red as it depletes, etc). It's rather nice.

So if the GB game is enhanced for the Super GB, than I most definitely wanna play it on the SGB. Otherwise, it just depends what mood I'm in, if I wanna go the handheld route or not. Super GB or the GB Player, or the GBA SP. And speaking of, I find the original GBA to be a little more comfortable, but the lit screen and awesome life of the rechargeable battery in the SP makes it just much easier to use. Though if I ever mod my GBA so it has a lit screen, that might end up being my choice over the SP.

Long story short... I voted Super GameBoy.

The AGS-101 revision of the GBA SP. I prefer to play Game Boy games on the go and this is the best way to do it.

Sometimes I play on the Pocket for nostalgia but that's a pretty rare happening.

GBA-SP. I play Game Boy games on the go, and this is the best option for that with the backlit screen.

Man, I just realized i have an Advance SP 001 model. Anyone here have a 101 that they want to sell? I'll even take a pink one if you've got one you don't want. PM me and let me know.

After growing up through all the Game Boy iterations, I prefer the first model of the advance because it's the most comfortable form factor. It's a damn shame about the lighting issue though, so I tend to play via emulator and a Super NES controller hooked up to a USB adapter.

I love the AGS-101, but it's so narrow and causes cramps. Also, the bigger screens of today have me far too spoiled.

Gamecube Game Boy Player. I love the big screen effect.

I probably would have picked Super Game boy, but I don't even have an SNES.

The Gamecube Game Boy player using an original model Game Boy Advance all the way! It makes original games look great, it gets the games on a big screen, and you get to use what I consider the most comfortable Game Boy model.

My AGS-101 works for me although it is a little cramped. I've picked up a number of Game Boy games from the 3DS eShop and like playing them on that system also (sticking all portables here).
