Pikmin aside, Miyamoto hasn't made any innovation since generation 3- don't bring up Star Fox, as good as it is, throwing a spaceship into Space Harrier isn't what I'd call "innovation".

Miyamoto is right. He needs to step aside and let the young pioneers try to make new stuff. As amazing as his games are, you can't be creative forever and everyone's passion for what they do eventually changes/matures/progresses.

And even though there are those 4 Mario games, for us older gamers that have played since the original SMB, it may start to feel stale but to kids or people new to the games, they're golden.

Except that SMB2 (the original, not the DDP reskin) aside, the old games actually innovated. These only throw in gimmicks and stuff that was already added in SMB3 and SMW.

No, they're just making too many of the wrong franchise. Why can't we have four new Fire Emblem games?

What a poor article.

I thought it would make interesting points, comparisons to other fields, other companies, analyze the market in interesting ways, but, as is par for the course in games journalism, we get an article that says basically "I think things should go like this because yes."

In my opinion all the companies need to focus more on new franchises. New and different IPs come out but on a general basis we have been beaten over the head with the same things for the last two generations.

Yeah, regardless of your feelings on the thesis, the article itself was terrible.

Sequalism dates back a lot longer than gen 6. Even Call of Duty has more differences between its installments than Megaman 3-6.

I do find it kinda interesting how most sequels in the NES days were either radically different or pretty much the same thing.
