Nominate your picks for my top 100 GameBoy/GameBoyColor list
Hey guys, last summer I started working on my mega huge top 100 NES games list, and now I'm currently writing another top 100 list and this time the subject is the original GameBoy and also the GameBoy Color, but NOT GameBoy Advance - that will be it's own thing. The original Xbox list I was considering earlier will be coming at a later time. I'll still be doing it, but it's just taking a backseat until I fill some gaps in my collection of games that I haven't played that everyone raves about.
For GB/GBC, I have already created a top 100 'beta' list of games to cover, but I know there are some real GameBoy enthusiasts here on Racketboy likely equally as passionate as I am about Nintendo's 8-bit portable wonder.
Therefore, I'd like to turn suggestions over to you guys. Maybe there are obscure European or Japanese games I've not thought of? I've gone over the GB/GBC romset several times already, but there's a chance I might have missed some true gems to share with not only the entire retro gaming community my blog attracts, but also here on RacketBoy and on many other retro forums as well.
I can't promise I'll agree to place y game in x position, but I will seriously consider every recommendation that I haven't already thought of for the list.
So let me know what you think should be on the list! The more obscure it is, the greater the chances that I haven't already considered and/or placed it somewhere on the list to begin with. Games like Super Mario Land are obvious, but stuff like Kwirk - not so much.
If possible, a short explanation of why you feel your nommonie should make the list would be appreciated.

Yes, I know of TripWorld, Gimmick's little brother well.
I actually already made a quarter of the list a while ago when I made my first list, my top 25. That was then and this is now, so while all the games I picked in that list will reappear on my final top 100, they won't be in the same order and I'll have much more detail to add to each entry in the same format as my top 100 NES list.
Here's a link to my original top 25.

I remember reading your top 25 when I first got to Rocketboy and I agree with everything posted there.
I have a few suggestions for top 100:
1. Gargoyle’s Quest - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw43qTd1xi4
A superb action platform game with unique story. The main character, Firebrand comes from the Ghosts'n Goblins series and has a lot of personality. The music is good, graphics are excellent for the ‘90s, the gameplay has some rpg elements… I think the game deserves a top 40 place.
2. Kid Dracula – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iXSTV_XgSE
A platform game that is a spinoff to Castlevania. It has great characters, levels and bosses, very good graphics and gameplay. I think the game deserves a top 60 place.
3. Prince of Persia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enXNUL4p ... ure=relmfu
The realistic animation of the character makes this title to be so unique in its genre. The Game Boy Classic version deserves a top 60 place imho.
4. Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors' Dreams - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ceJrrcg27s
Simply put: one of the best fighting games on GB/GBC. Deserves a place in top 100.
Other suggestions for top 100:
Xenon 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnR_dtw5DOM

Re: Nominate your picks for my top 100 GameBoy/GameBoyColor
I think that the Gameboy and Gameboy color, due to their technica limitations, are best suited for puzzle games and RPGs. Here are a few of my favorites:
Dragon Warrior III: The best RPG on the Gameboy, and arguably the best 8-bit RPG for any system.
Mole Mania: A great, semi-forgotten action puzzle game designed by Shigeru Miyamoto. It plays similarly to the Adventures of Lolo, and it is one my very favorite games for the original Gameboy.
Toki Tori: Another great, semi-forgotten puzzle, platforming game. Toki Tori is fantastically difficult, and the final levels are a tremendous challenge. It has been ported to the iPhone, but the Gameboy Color version is my favorite.

Nemesis is Gradius right? I wonder why it was called Nemesis in Sweeden?

It is indeed!Satoshi_Matrix wrote:Nemesis is Gradius right? I wonder why it was called Nemesis in Sweeden?
I always thought it was just the name for the GB series, I recall seeing a copy here in the states, and it was titled "Nemesis" as well.

the Nemesis name predates GB -- the 2 or 3 Gradius games on MSX were called Nemesis first. In the US, the first "Gradius" on GB is called Nemesis, though it is not a port of any of the MSX games. The second GB game is called Gradius: Interestellar Assault in the US.
Re: Nominate your picks for my top 100 GameBoy/GameBoyColor
Count another vote for Mole Mania, I always feel like that's an overlooked original Game Boy classic. Also, I think Final Fantasy Adventure's sheer size is something that warrants mentioning.
