I know, I know, I probably could have come up with a snappier title for my topic right? But anyways, I was wondering if any of you can remember the first few games you bought for your consoles? I'm surprised that I can for some. I find it interesting to look back.
Sega Megadrive:
Sonic Compilation - This came with the console and contained Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. I was a huge Sonic nut, 7 or 8 at the time, and was so excited to have my first console.
Gameboy Color
Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
My first Zelda game and boy did it impress me. This is still, perhaps, my favourite in the series. Probably because it was the first I played.
Sega Dreamcast:
Sonic Adventure, UEFA Striker, Tomb Raider 4, Trickstyle
My second console, this time I was 13 I think. I was blown away by playing Sonic in 3D for the first time. I was less of a Sonic nut, but it impressed the hell out of me at the time. I bought it just after my birthday and before Christmas. Then for Christmas, I received:
Shenmue, Worms Armageddon, Soul Calibur.
Sega Saturn:
Nights Into Dreams, Sega Rally, Virtua Fighter 2
During the 32 Bit era, I loved the Saturn. I had so many fond memories of playing it around my brother's friend's house. Unfortunately, because I was young and reliant on my parents, I skipped this era, so I decided to visit it when it was cheap enough to do so. I'm glad I did, because we all know how expensive Saturn games are now..
Nintendo 64:
Super Mario 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, Mario Kart 64, and a whole bunch of games I can't remember
Pretty similar to the Saturn really. I loved playing the N64 around my friends houses. Most of my friends owned one. It felt like such a great party console, since it had 4 controller ports. When I bought one, they really wanted to cut me a deal, so I basically had a huge selection of games (about 10 or so), controllers, the internal expansion ram thing at a really good price.
Nintendo Gamecube:
Pikmin and Resident Evil
Well, the Dreamcast was dead, it was becoming harder to find games for the system in shops, so I opted to move onto the Gamecube. Pikmin, despite my friends thinking it was a "kiddies'" games, I found to being incredibly addictive. I absolutely loved it. Resident Evil appealed to my more adult side though. I found REmake awesome and it blew me away how amazing it looked and played.
Playstation 2:
Star Wars Battlefront 2, God of War 2, Final Fantasy X
I bought this last year, because games were so immensely cheap and it has such a huge library. I bought so many games, in so little time, I can barely remember which my firsts other than the above 2 which were bought with the console.
Playstation 3:
Skyrim, Little Big Planet, Heavy Rain, Deux Ex Human Revolution
Bought this earlier this year, becauseI finally wanted to get into this generation. I love my PS3, although mostly as a media centre. That said, Heavy Rain is incredible. I'm a huge fan of Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit), so I loved Heavy Rain. Skyrim is also huge and enjoyable.
And then there's a whole bunch of consoles I had but then sold, ones like the PS1 my brother gave me, and ones like the Wii which actually belong more to my partner, so I can't really remember the games.
What about you?

Re: The first few games you bought for your consoles
Only going to count systems I got when they were more current, not more recent retro purchases. Here goes:
Master System: Sonic the Hedgehog, Aztec Adventure, plus the built in Alex Kidd. This was my first console, and those were the only 3 games I had, so it's easy to remember.
Mega Drive: Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Mega Games I (with Football Italia '90, Super Hang-On & Columns), maybe there were more? This was what I played the most as a kid, and is the hardest to remember what I got when.
SNES: Prince of Persia, Street Fighter 2, Pit Fighter, Flashback, Starwing (most of which I no longer own). My mum got me this from a friend at work, so the games that came with it weren't my choice. Out of those games I only own Starwing these days, although I have SF2 Turbo instead.
N64: Yoshi's Story, Pokémon Snap
I picked this up near the end of the console's life because I wanted Pokémon Stadium. I picked up Yoshi's Story 2nd hand for cheap to go with my Pikachu N64, and then I also got Pokémon Snap soon after.
Gamecube: Super Smash Bros Melee
I got this for passing my exams. Smash was the only game I really wanted, and the only one I could afford. I didn't get another game for about 4 months, when I picked up Mario Sunshine.
Wii: Twilight Princess, Red Steel, Wii Sports
Picked this up at launch. Got Red Steel after reading some good reviews. Immediately after, everyone started hating it. It's not terrible, but not great either.
GB Pocket: Mario Land, Mario Land 2
Picked up my GBP to get Pokémon Red back at the start of Pokémania. Unfortunately, Pokemon was sold out, so I spent the first 2 months playing Mario instead until Pokémon was back in stock.
GB Advance: Mario Kart: Super Circuit
Got the GBA with my birthday money. Got this game the next day for Christmas.
DS: Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt, Mario 64 DS, Project Rub
Picked up the DS at launch with the Hunters Demo and Mario. Project Rub was my next purchase for it.
3DS: Pilotwings Resort
Picked this up at launch. Pilotwings was the only game that interested me, but it was a good purchase imo.
3DO: Road Rash, Need for Speed, Pebble Beach Golf Links, FIFA, Wing Commander 3, Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller.
Got this back in the day second hand, with a handful of games. Never played it much, I wasn't really into most of the games, except for Road Rash. When I got it, the system was basically dead in the water, so I never saw any other games available to purchase.

Re: The first few games you bought for your consoles
The first games I bought, not the ones that came with the system or I was given as gifts... I don't know. It's hard to remember even the recent ones. Let's see if I can recall.
Atari 2600: My first Atari and all its games, that I sold many years ago, originally belonged to my parents so I never bought any games for it. When I got back into collecting for the system again my first purchases were Vanguard and Berzerk, my two favorites from when I was a kid.
NES: I was pretty young but I remember buying Amagon (freaking weird game), Dick Tracy, Back to the Future II & III and Ghostbusters. As you can see I wasn't really batting a thousand with game choices when I was a little kid.
Genesis: King of the Monsters 2, Sonic 3, 6-Pak, Theme Park.
SNES: Didn't own one back in the day but the first games I picked up were favorites I played at friend's houses. Mega Man X, Cybernator and Super Metroid.
Game Boy: Final Fantasy Legend II. I remember this one clearly because it was stolen from me in elementary school and I never got it back
. I still have the manual and the world maps from it but no game.
Game Boy Advance: Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. I remember being very hyped for that one. Can't remember what came next, Namco Museum maybe?
PlayStation: Wing Commander IV, I don't know what possessed me to get it instead of the PC version. Omega Boost, Final Fantasy Tactics, Xenogears.
N64: Star Fox 64, Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Brothers.
Dreamcast: Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Gundam Side Story 0079.
Gamecube: Viewtiful Joe, F-Zero GX, I don't remember really.
PlayStation 2: Robot Alchemic Drive, the only reason I wanted a PlayStation 2 at the time
.
X-Box 360: Call of Duty 4, Bayonetta, Ghostbusters.

Re: The first few games you bought for your consoles
Wow, cool thread!
I'm also from the 80's, so my first early games were bought by my parents. That being said, I recall my early experiences with my favorite games or the first games I played on it.
Sega Master System: I used to play Choplifter as a two-year old, but I could only fly across the screen, and then get shot down. Double Dragon as well. I received Scramble Spirits one Easter, that was cool!
Nintendo Entertainment System: I definitely remember getting my NES with Ninja Turtles the Arcade Game, and Super Mario Brothers 3.
Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog came with the console, but we picked up Flicky, Altered Beast, and Quackshot. Then we got the Sega CD, and it came with Sol-Feace and the Golden Axe, Columns, Streets of Rage packed in games. When the 32X came and flopped, I got one cheap--and picked up Knuckles Chaotix, Shadow Squadron, Virtua Racing, Virtua Fighter, to name a few.
N64: I first played N64 after I had appendectomy surgery. A friend brought over his console from next door. I played Goldeneye, Super Mario 64. The games I got when I finally got one for Christmas were Goldeneye, Diddy Kong Racing, Pokemon Stadium, and Road Rash 64. I think the first game I bought later on was Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Beetle Adventure Racing.
Virtual Boy: I bought these when they were discontinued, so I picked up Wario World, Mario Clash, Galactic Pinball, Mario Tennis.
Game Boy Color: I actually bought a Game Boy Color to get Pokemon Red. Later on, I fell in love with Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.
Game Boy Advance: Definitely got Super Mario Advance, and Advance Wars.
PSOne: Metal Gear Solid, most definitely. Also: Final Fantasy VII and VIII.
Dreamcast: I got my Dreamcast fairly late. I bought Sonic Adventure, Bomberman Online, Daytona USA to start. I later bought Phantasy Star Online and Shenmue, which were my favorite video games for this console.
The previous generation was when I got my first job in High School. I bought my Gamecube with one of my first few paychecks. The only game I bought at the time was Smash Brothers Melee! I eagerly ordered Phantasy Star Online Episodes I and II with the ASCII keyboard controller, when it released. I think one game I really looked forward to was Animal Crossing. What a game when it released, I was so thrilled with it and how ingenuous it implemented features like the game taking place in real time, E-reader, and GBA.
I got my PS2 for Christmas one year, with Metal Gear Solid 2. The first time I heard it booting up and playing the MGS2 theme, I got shivers down my spine.
I bought my Xbox one summer. I got Halo, but I mainly bought it to play Phantasy Star Episode I and II, so my friends and I could continue killing creatures in the Forest. It was the Sega Bundle, which gave me Jet Set Radio Future and Sega GT
.

Re: The first few games you bought for your consoles
Parents footed most of these expenditures since I was a kid.
NES: (Sans Mario/Duck Hunt Combo Cart that came with the system)
I believe, the first game I got for this was either Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers or Metroid. I can't really remember which. For the longest time, the only game I actually owned was the Mario/Duck Hunt cart it came with. Everything else I had to rent.
I think the first game I personally bought for the system was Zelda.
SNES:
When I got my SNES, I got a couple games with it. Not fantastic ones ... Maximum Carnage and Lawnmower Man.
The first games I bought for it was Super Mario World and Chrono Trigger.
N64:
Another gift system, it came with Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
First game I seeked out was Mario 64
GCN:
Got it with Luigi's Mansion.
WII:
Bought Twilight Princess the day the system came out ... even though I went home without one.
GB:
Bought a Gameboy Color with Link's Awakening ... so, not the DX version. (I don't own any actual GBC games)
GBA:
I ... don't really remember. I know the first game I personally went out and picked up was Sword of Mana.
NDS:
Picked up the Lite system with New Super Mario Bros.
3DS:
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D
GEN:
For about a year after getting the system ... I didn't actually own any games. For Christmas my mom got me Mortal Kombat ... I think I was 10 or 11.
SAT:
I picked up the system with Astal.
DC:
D2 and Shenmue
PS1:
Resident Evil Director's Cut
PS2:
Summoner
PS3:
Came with Uncharted. I think the first PS3 game I bought was Genji (lame, I know)
PSP:
Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins and Patapon.
SCD:
I still don't actually own a Sega CD. But the first Sega CD game I bought was Sonic CD.
X360:
Don't own a 360 either. First game I bought (massive used sales) was a group of games, Dead Rising, Crackdown, Gears of War 2 (I have 1 on PC), and Fable 2.

Re: The first few games you bought for your consoles
First game for the PS1 I got was FFVIII.
And for the PS2, I think it was Shadow of the Colossus.
And for the PS2, I think it was Shadow of the Colossus.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.
Re: The first few games you bought for your consoles
Ones I got when they were new(ish)
NES: Mario/Duck Hunt Pack in. My dad also bought Captain Skyhawk to go along with it.
SNES: Mario World pack in. First game we got after that was Turtles in Time, I think Street Fighter II after that, possibly Contra III.
Genesis: Sonic 2 pack in. I think X-Men was soon after.
Game Boy: Tetris >_> The one I bought for myself came with Zelda.
Game Gear: Lion King pack-in
32X: Virtua Racing
PSX: Nothing but the demo disc initially. Seriously, I was living overseas and my dad (secretly) snagged one of the first shipment of PSX's they got at the exchange as a birthday present...but no games.
The first game I actually got my hands on was Raiden Project. I actually got a friend to buy me MK3 in the 'States and mail it as well.
Saturn: Virtua Fighter Remix pack-in. Virtua Cop as well, that I recall.
N64: After the PSX snafu, and since I'd been pissed he wouldn't let me buy one myself for months, my dad let us know he'd secured us an N64 for Christmas. So we bought games for it - Mario 64, Shadows of the Empire, and Pilotwings 64 offhand.
Dreamcast: MvsC2 and Soul Calibur I think.
PS2: Zone of the Enders, Shadow of Destiny
XBox: Sega GT/Jet Set pack ins, DOA3, Panzer Dragoon Orta
Gamecube: Bought with Rogue Squadron II on release day. Traded that one in. Later picked up again with Metroid Prime for free + Wind Waker.
XBox 360: At the time I got the system, the reason was because friends and I were getting together to play Halo 2...when we graduated to 3, fewer people could host (or had to truck their systems around). So I got that. Marvel Ultimate Alliance/Forza 2 pack-ins, and I bought FFXI because it was cheap and I figured it'd make a good backup in case my PC was down (which was a bust, console version too crappy).
PS3: MGS4 bundled...mostly Blu-rays otherwise for a while.
Wii: My brothers blew the dust off their Wii and gave it to me. I think the first game I actually bought for it was Muramasa.
DS: Bought on a Wal-Mart online deal/bundle, basically got Pokemon Soulsilver and Scribblenauts for free.
PSP: Gran Turismo bundle. I think my first round of game orders included Dracula X Chronicles, Darkstalkers Chronicle, and Metal Slug Anthology.
