Post sale Atari is just a husk with the name being slapped on software, so doesn't count.
Only the 2600 and 5200 were pre-crash. The 7800 was in direct competition with the SMS and NES.
The 2600 and 5200 are considered a 2nd gen console
The 7800 is considered a 3rd gen console
The Jagauar is considered a 5th gen console

Not trying to shoot anyone, or any ideas down, but I think if we added it we should keep up the current classification by brand theme going. If we started to lump stuff other than current gen stuff together we may open a can of worms about reorganizing the whole forum structure.

I for one like the idea of encouraging new retro discussions and avoiding the return of the "Top ___" lists.

I just meant that I don't see a dedicated Atari section getting that much traffic. All of their consoles after the 2600 were fairly lackluster in the grand scheme of things and of course there was a lot of "Oh joy, Centipede, Asteroids, and Missle Command again".

Space Dungeon. I'm going to send Evil Otto from 5200 Berzerk on you. Agree though, a limitation on titles.

I can see both Hobie's and dsheinem's different points of view. The Atari is a dead company compared to the other brands listed although Sega also died. Maybe it makes sense under Other Platforms section even though there were multiple Atari consoles? However, look at the sub title, it does not really emphasize the older game systems.
Other Platforms
Neo-Geo, Arcade, Portable, & Every Other Platform
Maybe Atari needs a category since it did have a multiple set of console generations compared to GCE or Mattel? Or the Other Platforms category could be expanded to point out more of the Retro Consoles? Since Atari is one of the earliest and biggest companies of the day it should be listed?
Other Platforms
Atari, Intellivision, Coleco, Vectrex, Neo-Geo, Arcade, Portable and Other Platforms

I always found it odd that Portables are listed under 'Other platforms' when the vast majority of the popular ones were made by either Nintendo, Sony or Sega, who have their own boards already. Just a minor gripe, but it does make me wonder which board I should put stuff in sometimes.

If Atari does not get its sub forum, maybe it should be in front of the systems listed in the Other Platforms category. But what of all the Atari posts already in the Other Platforms section?

Good point, Gameboy usually gets posted in the Nintendo section where it makes sense anyways. Maybe the Portable label should be removed?

I disagree pretty strongly with this one. Atari doesn't rate a forum of its own. I can see giving it better billing under "Other Systems" but not a space to itself.

If SNK couldn't manage to get its own forum, it's silly to argue that Atari needs one.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

You don't buy the "# of systems" argument? What do you think the rationale for a seperate subforum is/should be?

Seeing as Atari (Atari Age) and SNK (Neo Geo Forums) both have actual dedicated Forums, I think any serious serious fans of either company are already on those dedicated sites. I think it's fine the way it is.

If you take a poll on this site, about favorite company, it's going to go (in no particular order) Sega, Nintendo, Sony Playstation and Xbox.

All others NG, TG-16, Atari, Coleco, etc...are going to get much less support...so, I think we are good where we are, other wise we're going to open a can of worms looking for a forum for Intellivision and FM Towns, etc...

I actually wouldn't oppose Atari and SNK having dedicated forums. But ultimately, I don't really care either haha.
