Yeah I first saw it here too. But since everyone does it, I joined the band wagon
Maybe we like it because its almost like a palindrome?

Haha yeah that's what I called them all the time, mostly "regular" Nintendo.AppleQueso wrote:You really never heard "regular Nintendo" or "old Nintendo" back in the SNES days?Luke wrote: Personally I have never heard a soul (until now) call Nintendo anything other than Nintendo or NES.
For quite awhile though in my very young days though, "Videogames" were just straight up "Nintendo games" to me. Think I finally broke that habit when I got a Genesis late in its life.

I use oXbox here but irl I just say "original Xbox".
To annoy my friends though, I will say "Did you ever play -insert game- on the Ox Box?".

Older. Not wiser.

Age difference methinks.
It was either Nintendo or Super Nintendo growing up for me. There was no "Old Nintendo", just "Nintendo". When Super Nintendo came out, there was a HUGE emphasis on "Super".
If someone said simply "Nintendo" it was clear what system they had.
The line is kind of blurry: If someone said "I own an xbox" instead of "I won an xbox360" I wouldn't mind. But if someone said "I own an old Nintendo" either he thinks I'm an idiot, or I think he's an idiot. Or both.

For a while I thought oxbox was an xbox emulator
nes was referred to as nintendo.
Sega does need to teach these companies alot of things!

You sir just changed my vernacular.
I keep picturing Ahhh-nald saying "AHHHHHXXXXX BAHHHHHHXXX!"
One thing that I've noticed is that calling the GameCube "The Crube" only caught on in certain areas of the South East. "The Crube" remains my favorite console nickname, especially when in conversation.

I still say "regular Nintendo" in conversation sometimes without thinking about it.AppleQueso wrote:You really never heard "regular Nintendo" or "old Nintendo" back in the SNES days?Luke wrote: Personally I have never heard a soul (until now) call Nintendo anything other than Nintendo or NES.
The first time I saw oXbox was here and I thought that was a nice solution for the confusion.
Re: Why people call Xbox "oXbox" here?
I don't think I've ever referred to the Xbox as the oXbox (<----Except for, of course, right there). If it ever comes up in conversation I call it "the original Xbox" to differentiate it from the 360, because just about everyone I know refers the the Xbox 360 as just "the 360".
I'm not sure why I do that. Probably because once the Super Nintendo came out I started referring to the NES as the "original Nintendo" to differentiate the two.
So far my reasoning has yet to confuse anyone.
