Why people call Xbox "oXbox" here?

Post by Menegrothx »

I've seen many people calling Xbox "oXbox" here on Racketboy Forums, why is that? I've never seen that term being used anywhere else. Considering that on a gaming forum every one will know that "360"=Xbox 360, it seems redundant, like calling the original NES "oNES".
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

because a lot of people simply call the 360 "Xbox"

it's to differentiate them a bit more

I've seen oXbox used elsewhere, though i can't remember exactly where.

Lots of people call the XBox 360 'Xbox'. No one calls the Super Nintendo 'NES'. SNES and NES are clearly distinct, but it's never always clear what people mean when they say XBox. It's the same reason people say PS1 or PSX instead of just Playstation sometimes.

What ^ said. I've noticed even at Game Stop, the 360 is referred to as "xbox" and the PS3 is simply called "Playstation".

"oxbox" is perfectly fine and rolls of the tongue/fingers better than "xbox, you know the original one, not the 360".

And no one says oNES, get out of here with that.

oh, as for the "oNES" bit

...I recall many, MANY people back in the day referring to the NES as the "regular Nintendo" or "old Nintendo"

Let's just hope they really don't go with "720" for the next one, ugh. Sega needs to teach everyone about naming systems.

I find it endearing when old people call every game system "nintendo".
I could be playing a game on my laptop and my Grandmother will say "Oh, are you playing your Nintendo?". (back off, she's in her 90's and I love her very much)

I also crack up when my Mother calls video games "game shows".

Personally I have never heard a soul (until now) call Nintendo anything other than Nintendo or NES.

You really never heard "regular Nintendo" or "old Nintendo" back in the SNES days?

I started using OG XBox around here for a little bit, just because I thought it sounded cool. I finally got called out on it, and I stopped. But I've since seen others using it, I started a fad.
