Dragons Lair on Sega CD
Found a copy of 'Dragons Lair' for the Sega CD at a local game store yesterday. I have never actually played Dragons Lair but heard the animation was sick and the game was hard as hell. Just curious if the Sega CD version is a quality port and worth the $15 they are asking.

Not having played that one, I'd say no.
The reason being that Dragon's Lair is a Laserdisc game. Think quicktime events these days. Hit the right direction at the right time, and move on to a video segment where you don't die horribly.
At the time it came out on the Sega CD, being able to have full motion video on a console was fairly novel. Objectively speaking, however, the Sega CD is not that good at FMV. It still had a low resolution, low color count, and so on.
The game has been released on tons of systems, along with some spinoffs. Heck, you can get straight up DVD and Blu-ray versions of it. Don't even need a console.
For $15(ish) on Amazon you can buy the Wii edition that also includes Dragon's Lair II and Space Ace. On a system capable of outputting Laserdisc quality video. To me, that'd be a better way to go.

I stayed up all night the first night I rented it so I could complete it. There was no password or save system.
It was Dragon's Lair with Sega CD quality video, so that's what you should expect.

unless you're a sega cd collector, there's no reason to get it for $15.

There's Dragon's Lair in HD for the PS3 and 360 if you really want to play it.

This, the Wii version is very good, faithful to the Arcade and better resolution then the Laser Disc. I own the original Dragons Lair Laser Disc, Wii and Gamecube versions. The Gamecube version is also good and offers direct control of Dirk.isiolia wrote:For $15(ish) on Amazon you can buy the Wii edition that also includes Dragon's Lair II and Space Ace. Re: Dragons Lair on Sega CD
Kinda was hoping to add this game to the ol'sega cd collection(its lacking. ALOT) but if the port is as poor as you guys say then i just saved $15. I have a wii tho so it looks like i will be going that route. Thanks for the heads up!
Edit: just watched on youtube the sega cd version. Wow did i dodge a bullet lol. Gameplay looks the same but the image is super grainy
