Fastbilly: Yeah I'm pretty sure the sound did keep going.

Hobie-wan: That is true, but there will be some degree of dust that gets into any system with a fan in it, even the stock fan. Alot of people tend to put their systems on a shelf or some type of entertainment center, which tends to be a dust magnet, especially since it might be closer to the ground. More dust usually gravitates near the ground than say, eye level, especially when you're walking around because it gets kicked off from your shoes. So even with extra fans I'll more than likely be attracting less dust than the average user that uses just a stock fan. I looked at some reviews here and there and there's quite a few people that said the fans helped keep their previously overheating system from overheating. Mine hasn't overheated but it's more of a precaution. If I do have some issues with dust I can simply stop using the fans and sell them. I would say extra fans are pointless but with all of the horror stories I've heard about this generation, I don't trust new consoles in terms of reliability.

Wall of text much xD

Yeah, I wasn't saying don't try to keep it cooler, just that dust happens.

I suppose while the thread's open and active I might as well ask, how hard is it to get the front panel of a Wii off, and are there any risks for someone with common sense? Reason being, the eject button needs replacing. It works, but the button mechanism on the inside feels broke. Doesn't click like it should and you've got to press it really hard to get it to eject.

I'm against any add on fan, it will suck in more dust. A trade off of higher air flow for cooling also brings in more dust. Unless you are in a Medical Clean room or something it will get dusty inside. I just mentioned on MAS's Wii Disc Error thread how clean my Wii was inside, maybe because of no external fans?

I posted a Guide on a Wii laser change out, you can see the disassembly process.

Haven't polished the disc yet (will probably head across town to do that this evening though) but yesterday I played Madworld for a good 3 hours or so and didn't experience any black screens. So it very well could have been the disc if not the cables. Thanks again for all your input guys. I'll update this thread if I have any further problems :)

I've had the Wii black out for an instant last evening while playing House of the Dead Overkill.. I use Radioshack multi-format component cables which rules out the cabling, played a number of PS2 games in progressive scan earlier and that never happened.

I guess they don't make 'em like they used to!

Haha I suppose so.

Just an update, I'm almost positive it's just a screwy copy of New Super Mario Bros. I got the disc polished/resurfaced whatever you wanna call it and it blacked out on me 2 or 3 times yesterday. But then I played mad world for about 2 hours and it didn't black out not even once.

Strange that a game will black out a couple of times and not come back as an error read. That usually would indicate a video cable connection. If just Mario doing it, then maybe avoid playing it, the concern of the Laser being strained.
