I finally got a good deal at a thrift store. I lost out on some great genesis games and after not finding anything on my way out a see a boxed wii with wii sports. I asked how much and the clerk said 25.00. I looked at the price and it was 75.00. So without hesitation I picked it up. I brought it home and no controller or nunchuck. Doesn't matter I have a couple wii motes anyways. I tested it and disc read error.
Does anyone know what I can do to repair this problem? I tried different wii games and gamecube games. No luck at all. What can I do thanks.
Wii disc read errors need help
Re: Wii disc read errors need help
Try using Nintendo's official cleaning kit.
I was getting some read errors when trying to play a used, lightly scratched GCN game. I used the cleaning kit (maybe two or three times) and now it reads that disc just fine.

In the future, you should try to answer your own question by doing a google search and then reading/following the results you get. Sounds like you didn't do any sort of research at all.

I actually did but since I'm part of a great gaming site like this I would rather get help from people who are pro's on video games and maybe have had the issue that I'm going thrugtmtnbiker wrote:In the future, you should try to answer your own question by doing a google search and then reading/following the results you get. You can try that cleaning kit that Ziggy mentioned. It is the only way to clean the laser short of taking it apart. My Wii died from a bad disc so I took it apart to clean the laser. I bought a replacement laser just in case for only ten bucks which turned out to be the better investment since the inside of the Wii was very clean. In my case I don't think the cleaner would have done anything.

That wouldn't be a problem if the question you asked was unique and the first time it was ever asked. But it's not, this question has come up multiple times before.
Now if you have tried various solutions and still have trouble or some part of a solution doesn't make sense, then yes, it's ok to ask questions.
By getting into the habit of searching for an answer to your questions, you usually get a resolution to your problem quicker and have the satisfaction of figuring it out yourself.
Anyway, here are some more tips for you:

Aww yeah, psychically stealing credit without an edit. Take that Ziggy!
This post probably won't make sense later once fixed.

@ gtmtnbiker - No need to be so stuffy, part of the fun of a Forum site is posting and reading about stuff like this.

Re: Wii disc read errors need help
well i'm going to try the laser cleaning method. after 5 tries the wii sports worked. I tried new super mario bros and I needed to update but i cant because the guy who had it before me had parental controls on and i need a password to shut it off. Better not ask how to do that in this forum before people start showing me how to use google or yahoo or msn again
Re: Wii disc read errors need help
I remember when I first got a PS2 I couldn't watch the God of War II bonus disc stuff because the console had parental controls on it. I was really pissed because I didn't know the password, but it ended up being 000 or something (which I just randomly punched in). I guess maybe that was the default or something.mas wrote:well i'm going to try the laser cleaning method. after 5 tries the wii sports worked. Anyway, after a quick google search, I just found this:

Maybe it'll help you.
