Sadly, no, but it was right next to where I am staying so I didn't have to do any driving/walking. Laziness FTW.

Portillo's is solid, but make sure to hit up Gene & Jude's before you depart. I mean it.

Love a Chicago dog. You can get em here, but they're not as good. Which I guess is the same as saying you can't get em here. :P

Raw tomatoes have no place on a true Chicago style dog, only pickled tomatoes. I also have to add that that ketchup is dangerously close to your hotdog.

Going to make a chicken pot pie from scratch today. Usually I use leftovers, and it seems silly to cook chicken only to cook it again, but I'm craving it.

Dude, rotisserie chicken from Costco is the bomb and that is one step down. :)

Dank.

Rotisserie chicken is about the best thing for people who "don't have time to cook". Straight out of the package, or making chicken casseroles, or chicken sandwiches, chicken salad, etc. Use it wisely and you can make three meals out of one chicken.

This is a good time to start here, with the start of the month and all. So I decided to do a warm-up with a heavily modified and simple version of a recipe I intend to try out properly soon (the only thing shared in the recipe is that it has pasta and takes hot peppers, because the basil should be fresh - but it was enough to make me come up with this).

I simply used 1 cup lentils (dried), boiled them up in the hob with water, 4 crushed garlics and 2 crushed dried hot peppers and some salt. Then after some 12-15 min I removed the garlics and husks of the hot peppers (floating on top of the liquid), added "basil dust", and then pasta (I used fusili) and a bit more water, and let the pasta soak up until al dente (sampled and added more salt before the end).

In the plate I drizzled a bit of raw olive oil (I think it is healthier than boiling it together with the rest).

It was quite tasty , different from my usual pasta with cheese and should serve me two more times.

I should do something else on the weekend.

I mostly agree. Everyone has their idea of what a Chicago dog is and isn't, and I'm not going to dispute ones selection and whether it's akin to the old guard of Chicago dogs. My ideal dog includes; mustard, onions, relish, and sport peppers....but doesn't necessarily omit a spear, celery salt, and pickled tomatoes. But you hit the nail on the head there with the ketchup, Luke. Not only does it not belong on the dog OR fries, it doesn't even belong on the table, imho.

I won't dismiss ketchup.

But I physically cringe when my Father-in-law drowns a $20 super well done/basically charred ribeye steak in ketchup.
