Wii Screen Blackout

So I just recently got a Wii of my own. I know I'm about 6 years too late XD But yeah. So far it works perfectly, but when I was in the middle of playing New Super Mario Bros. The screen blacked out for like a second then came back.

Anyone had this happen before? Also the disc is pretty scratched, and I don't know how Wii's act if they have disc reading issues because this is the first one I've owned myself, but it didn't skip or anything, the screen just went black for a second and then came back. I looked on Google and wasn't really able to find any solution.

Also another tidbit of information, if it might be relevant, I'm using one of the cheap offbrand component cables you can get for like $5 and my TV's just a little AOC Envision 19 inch.

I have never seen a screen blackout with the NSMB Wii game so I have to think it's because your disc is scratched. See if you can find another disc to borrow and try out.

I'd bet it has to do with the cables. I have cheap ones on my Xbox and it does the same thing sometimes, doesn't matter if I am running the game from the hard drive or a disk. I'm pretty sure I've read about other people having similar issues with cheap component cables as well.

As others have mentioned, it could be a loose cable connection or the scratched disc. I would definitely get that disc polished out, no sense in shortening the life of the Wii laser and risk losing locked to console game saves from a dead Wii.

I agreeit is likely something in the connection to the TV, which would have likely gone black for a moment if it lost the signal.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. Yeah I got Madworld yesterday too and it didn't black out or anything like that on that game so far. Also played NSMB for about 2 hours or so last night as well and it didn't black out. If it does black out again though, I'm going to switch to AV just to see if it happens again. If it doesn't then it probably is the component cables.

A buddy of mine on Twitter said it happened to him once or twice, but never caused any issues and never happened again after a couple times. Another friend said his did that when the fan quit spinning in his. Just to be safe I ordered both an intake and exhaust fan for it. By that I mean one of those USB fans to put in the back and one that's on a stand. It might be overkill, but better safe than sorry I suppose. Only cost me $10 for both of em

Seriously, polish that disc. My Wii laser died from a bad disc. Lucky I didn't lose anything since I managed to put a replacement laser in.

The add on fan might help but also add trouble if it pulls dust inside.

An exhaust fan wouldn't. If anything it'd pull dust out. Not sure about the intake one though. It may or may not, since it's one of those stands, there wouldn't be too much of an area for dust to get through especially if its sitting by me on my desk, as opposed to being buried in a typical entertainment center.

And yeah I'm gonna polish the disc. I don't like a scratched disc being in a system of mine either.

Did the sound continue when it blacked out? If so, its most likely not the disc. I say most likely because Ive had this happen a couple times playing PAL games via Composite cables - never on Component though.

If air is being pulled through something, so is dust. Just because a fan is pushing air in or pulling it out, there's still air going through the device, along with all the contaminants included.
