ps1 best compatibility

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello..

I want some advice, I am interested in ps1 games and never owned ps2.

I understand that ps3 has ps2 backward compatibility but it doesn't work best.

is it better choice to buy ps2 slim(or not slim) to play ps2 and ps1 games, and
is there any problems I should be aware of?
will ps2 memory cards work with ps1 games?

I am not intersted in ps3 , as its too expensive compared to new/used ps2 ,
i own 360 and metal gear and gran turismo do not interest me.

do you think I should go with emulation for ps1?

Just getting a PSX is your best option. They're like $5 with cables at the flea market, and controllers are everywhere. I say this because no, PS2 cards will not work with PS1 games played on a PS2, and PS1 cards will not work in a PS2 even with PS1 software.

To put it simply, you can't save while playing a PS1 game on PS2.

If all you want is a PS1 then get a PS1. No reason to buy substantially more expensive machines if you wont use them for their core libraries.

Um, what?

This isn't true, you can save using a ps1 memory card.

Yeah. I've got one in my (slim) PS2 right now. Works fine.

PS2 is the way to go. You get component connection and that will give you a better picture for your ps1 games. Memory card isn't a problem, but you must have ps1 memory card to save ps1 games and ps2 card to save ps2 games. BTW, the slim has more games not compatible with it. The fat one has a few, around 9 I think, though not many that you would likely play. The reason for ps2 is also because the PS2 has a lot of good games and you might change your mind and want to play some in the future. I know PS3 if out of the question, probably because of price, but if money is no object, then I'd try to find a used 60GB. So far all my PS1 games that I have still works and they look really good.

If you don't care how a game looks, if you must have all your games compatible, if you only want to play PS1 games, if price is a big concern, then yeah, you should buy a PS1. Even better if you find one that is modded. You can play backup games. I have one but I don't use it because I have a modded PS2 fat one. I love my FAT one to death. Greatest investment I have ever made, even more so than the PS3 I just bought, though I am beginning to love that GIANT unshapely machine. :P

Are you sure? I use component cables on my ps2 and while it works great for ps2 games, as soon as I put in a ps1 game I get no picture at all.

Maybe the model of ps2 that I'm running may be an issue?

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Just to clarify; All models of PS3 will play PS1 games. Only certain models will play PS2 games.

PS2s require PS1 memory cards to save. They will not save to 8MB magic gate PS2 memory cards.

Texture quality seems to be a bit hit and miss on PS2s, I feel that the Slims look slightly worse than the Fatties but that is just my own opinion. It might be a bit biased too.

I'd buy a PS1, but I would get either an (where x is your region, I.E., 0/3 - NTSC-J, 1 - NTSC-U, 2 - PAL) SCPH-500x or SCPH-900x.

One thing I would mention is that the SCPH-500x series is that they still have the parallel port and therefore are able to take the old action-replay things that could bypass copy protection and region. The SCPH-900x had the parallel port removed so you cannot go down this route if you want to play imports/backups.

Hope this helps

so the ps3 has NO problems playing ps1 games?

I should get ps1 memory card to save on the ps2?

does any one sitll do ps1 mod-chips, and where to get backup games?

i am really scared of buying psx, because I feel they are a bit old and
to find a working one with no faults is going to be difficult, while i still can get
my hands on ps2's new, and they play all ps1 games?

any idea if it is better to get ps-one, you know the tiny one

Depends of the TV. I agree the games will look like shit on LCD tv. Fortunately, I also have a Sony CRT TV with component connection and the games look fantastic on it. As for you not seeing any picture for PS1 games, I don't know what's going on with your PS2. That has never happened to me before so I am not sure. Maybe you should try adjusting the settings???

Are you sure about that??? I thought only the 20GB and 60GB (hardware emotion chips) and 80GB (software emulation) version have backward compatibility. Can anyone with a 40GB PS3 confirm this??? Thanx.
