Why do people eat out at McDonalds?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

And I, too, am from the south but I just say soda. Personally, I hate cola in general and find Coke too syrupy.
Whataburger is mainly a Texas thing, it started in Chorpus Christi, where there is like 5, one of which is two stories. Its huge here, and covers the surrounding states. I'm not sure how well. I know theres some in Louisianna, but I'm not sure where else.

I like a lot of different types of cokes. I'm just about the only person who doesn't have the "it tastes like grit" problem.

Whataburger is pretty good. Never realized it was mainly a Texas chain.

I think McDonalds holds the double edged sword.

When People think of fast food, MCD comes to mind.

MCD has an image to maintain and have to stay relavant in these times. Which is harder with so much comptetion.

What would OLD classic Mcdonalds think of new hip health consicous MCdonalds now?

Would they balk at the smaller sized portions?[little to big to little again]

Would they want to be politically correct like new mcdonalds is?

Since they are in the public eye now more than ever [no thanks to mr. Spurlock :? ]

They can only do so much before public ridicule and scrutiny?

I was reminded of this topic while eating dinner last night. I decided to sit down and calculate the cost of my dinner for my family of four. We had lasagna with bread, caesar salad, and green beans.

Lasagna (7 layers fresh whole wheat pasta, organic tomato sauce, real ricotta mozzarella and parmesan cheeses)
Bread (whole grain)
Salad (organic romaine lettuce, dressing, homemade whole grain croutons)
Green beans (organic)

Total cost = $18.

So, for the same cost of feeding my family a few dozen McNuggets and fries (according to an earlier post in this thread), I can instead feed my family organic, fresh, whole foods with fresh organic vegetables and real cheese.

The time involved is about 15 minutes of easy preparation, and it sits in the oven for 35 minutes.
$3 fresh (not dry) whole grain wheat pasta
$3 organic sauce (I only use about half a $5 jar)
$5 ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan cheeses (total, I only use half a container of ricotta, half a ball of mozz, and just a bit of parm; all cheese is real with no modified milk ingredients)
$1 whole multi-grain bagette (we eat half at dinner, and I factored in some for the croutons)
$2 organic romaine lettuce (about one head)
$4 organic green beans (these are relatively expensive and we eat a lot of them)

McD's sucks compared to almost every other burger place out there. The exception? Burger Thing is even worse.

1. In&Out (after this, it's not really a competition)
2. JiB
3. Carl's Jr.

I didn't think Whataburger was real either until I went to Texas and ate there. It's pretty good!

I remember going to McDonalds being a normal cheeseburger and a small fry. Then it became about monster sized portions. Now it's suffering from an identity crisis with garden salads and gourmet coffees.

I'd sooner go to a nice diner for a good homemade burger but if I'm on the road with little time or money, fast food gets the job done. That said McDonalds is usually not my first choice.

I didn't think White Castle was real when I watched Harold & Kumar.

Then in Boston I made it a point to go there. It's not very good.

Granted, it didn't even look good in the movie.

White Castle is AMAZING. If I ever meet you in real life I'm going to have to burn you as a heretic.

When I was young, my mother used to buy me pre-packaged, microwavable, frozen White Castle burgers from the grocery store. I always wondered what "White Castle" meant in the Beastie Boys raps.
