I just got a 360 a few months ago myself, in the JP variety. I've pretty much always hated the Xbox and Xbox 360, and owning one has really only made my opinion of the hardware worse, but my god, those shmups. Oh my god--those shmups.
Picked up quite a few of the cave shooters, and a couple others, but I can't recommend Mushihimesama Futari enough. Especially because, I believe, it's also one of the few region free JP shmup releases.

I'm hell-bent on 1ccing that ridiculous game. Can't quite make it to the third boss yet, though. :(

Also, don't forget about the Xbox live arcade shmups: Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, Guwange (Cave), KOF Sky Stage, Sine Mora, Strania, Triggerheart Excelica, Trouble Witches Neo, Bangai-O HD.

I credit-fed Deathsmiles tonight just to see how it looks in the later levels - and good grief! It's like a completely different game after the first six stages! And I think the designers were stoned at one point...

Am really looking forward to clearing it legitimately, but think it'll be a long way off.

Have played DDP Resurrection a couple of times only but completely don't understand the scoring on it so will leave that until I have a bit more time to ease myself into it.

Mushihimesama Futari I'm looking forward to, and Guwanje. I'll be able to get onto XBLA soon when I get an adapter, so I'll be looking at the download games then.

I just picked up deathsmiles a few days ago, it is seriously so much fun. The only other shmups I had played before hand were Raiden 4, Gradius 3 and Aegis Wing. I really enjoy the mbl arrange version, the second bonus stage is awesome just watching points rack up. When you kill an enemy they shoot these weird bullets and you can use your familiar to shoot those bullets to make them drop items. I had around 589 million points when I died and I suck at shmups. Also Aegis Wing is free on the marketplace, it's slow and it's decent at best but it's a free shmup.

Yeah, from what I played of it I really didn't care for it, but I don't have a gold membership yet, and the co-op looks sort of interesting, so I might give it a little more of my time if I ever really get online with the 360.

don't have too high of expectations for it, it is a free game. It will kill some time and co-op is alright but the last level is too long. It gets really boring and it's a pain to beat it on insane. I still have to beat the game on insane and score 180,000 points for the last two achievements.

the co-op is better than single player, but it's still not the best shmup or anything, co-op on deathsmiles seems like it would be fun though on the other hand haha.

The EX2 fighting stick arrived. I really like it but wish the base was a bit broader. The first time I used it on Deathsmiles my high score increased from 8-million-odd to 13-million-odd! I like this...

I'm gonna pick up the wwe brawler stick for 40 or 50 on amazon and just mod it I think. I wasn't too impressed with the ex2 when I had it, not sure what it was.

it was the hori parts.

...and I know what you mean about the small base, Spyke. I started with an EX2 and sold it after I got my EX-SE. the size and weight definitely made a difference. (not to mention the ls-32  ) although i'm not a lap player anymore, i prefer to use a table
