YES. I love the look of low polygon counts. I am less keen on low res textures, bad filtering, and fog, but I still have a degree of fondness for them.
I'd love to see a game with very low poly graphics and very high res textures. Seems like it would be an interesting contrast.
Do you have nostalgic fondness for older polygonal graphics?

I think 3d dot game heroes is the best looking game this gen. It gives me the feeling that I could reach in my TV and touch things.

I love my N64 but i cant say i loathe it's graphics, almost EVERY game on the PS1 and N64 could use a update, the GCN/XBOX/PS2 era really changed graphics for the better.
I would love to see Banjo-Kazooie remade, wish i could say the same for Goldeneye 007, but it seems they have already done it and it just couldnt live up to its N64 glory days with all the Battlefields and Call of Duty's on the market today.

Oh yeah, I love the graphics in games like Virtua Fighter (on the 32x) and Virtua Cop. It's not until I try to play a game like Tomb Raider on the Saturn that graphics become an issue. haha

Sure I do. PS1 games in particular, since that was the last system I really "grew up" with.

Depends. I find Virtua Racing endearing but basically everything on the PS1 and Saturn hideous. Clean, minimalist styles tend to hold up best in my opinion. Daytona USA Championship Circuit Edition, Intelligent Qube etc.
The biggest issue for me is how many old games look that bad AND run at less than 30fps, which is the flat out minimum for playability in my opinion.

Older. Not wiser.

Re: Do you have nostalgic fondness for older polygonal graph
I grew up on 90s PC games like Need For Speed 3 along with a bunch of arcade compilation discs. I didn't get my first console - a ps2 - until about 2005. I think the technical limitations pose a really interesting problem for artists. It's tough to look at low-poly games and say "wow, that looks great" in the same way you can for sprite games, but a few managed to be beautiful. Instead of trying to be something they weren't, they took advantage of their limitations. The reflections in NFS3 are a great example, as well as the sparse design of the Zelda 64 games, the colors in Ace Combat 3. These are impressive for their time, but they could also be called artistically accomplished. They look exactly like they're supposed to.

Re: Do you have nostalgic fondness for older polygonal graph
I have a soft spot for Virtua Racing. I still prefer texture mapping, but this is just so classic.
Here it is displayed in Wide Screen on the ps2, done with just a simple hex edit.
On the Sega Classics Collection
search
0742 0000 0000 0AD7 233F 30B8 9E3E 0000
replace with
0742 0000 0000 8FC2 F53E 30B8 9E3E 0000
But this hex edit is only for Virtua Racing. All othere games are in 4:3.
As for the op, loads of ps2 games can be forced to 480p and forced to widescreen.

The last few times I tried playing PS1 and N64 games, my eyes started hurting. Literally. I definitely prefer sprite based games.
Current systems: Nintendo Switch and XBox 360,
