But there's no physical thing and it is just data. Ok maybe if they give you a little credit back in return for removing it so you never play it ever again. Still seems dumb to me.

Yeah, I have a few Steam games I wouldn't mind getting permanently removed in exchange for some credit in my Steam wallet.

I hope Gamestop can do this. In a sense it will send the message out to allow purchased digital only games to be archived. I would never buy a digital copy, but there are some who like the convenience.Gamespot wrote:http://www.gamespot.com/news/gamestop-l ... nt-6388559
GameStop already has a solid footing in the boxed used games business, but as the industry trends toward digital, the chain is considering ways it could resell downloadable games.
Earlier this month, a European court ruled that the secondhand sale of software was protected, making it so producers can no longer prevent users from reselling licenses.
GameStop's boxed secondhand game business is a major unit for the company. For fiscal 2011, GameStop recorded $2.62 billion in revenue from this sector, 27.4 percent of its total revenues

Re: Reselling Digital Content
I like the idea. I mean if really what you're buying is the license, then it would be cool if you could sell and transfer that license.
As noted, we've all downloaded games that we probably regret now. Either we didn't like it, or it has no replay value, or maybe the digital game was eventually re-released physically and we went that route. Say for instance Journey. When the physical deluxe edition comes out, it would be cool if I had the option to get even a couple bucks for that digital edition.
Another interesting idea is rare DLC. For instance the Ninja Turtles games which are no longer on XBLA or PSN. Imagine if you could still buy a used copy of those digital licenses?

That is something, would definitely be a "collectable", though I doubt Gamestop would give you a fair price. I wonder how long after a removed game could be downloaded again from a holder of the license? A shame preorder DLC extras are lost to various games, would be great if they became available as well.noiseredux wrote:Another interesting idea is rare DLC. If this is true that European court just made a lot of DRM illegal over there.Gamespot wrote:Earlier this month, a European court ruled that the secondhand sale of software was protected, making it so producers can no longer prevent users from reselling licenses.
Used digital copies. Hmm. I like the concept, but I don't know how well it would work.CRTGAMER wrote:Interesting, would definitely be a "collectable", though I doubt Gamestop would give you a fair price. I'd suspect from a legal perspective that those games wouldn't be resellable.noiseredux wrote:Another interesting idea is rare DLC. For instance the Ninja Turtles games which are no longer on XBLA or PSN. Imagine if you could still buy a used copy of those digital licenses?

Re: Reselling Digital Content
hard to say how it would work. I mean now I can re-download Turtles in Time on PSN cuz I have the license. Nobody can buy it "new" on there. But I still have access to it. So I'd figure that just transferring the license could do the same thing. Of course, I have no idea and am just talking hypothetically.MrPopo wrote:I'd suspect from a legal perspective that those games wouldn't be resellable.noiseredux wrote:Another interesting idea is rare DLC.
