I used to think that video game can help improve your intelligent because some games will exploit your intelligents to solve complicated puzzle.

To beat a game back then you had to outwit the unfair AI, unless you found some sort of exploit/glitch you were stuck trying over and over again to get the upper hand.

Not so sure if that myth still goes for modern games because it seems like today games have the option to make the AI dumb as a brick.

Nope, games actually train your problem solving skills and reflexes.

Unfortunately games are (in most cases) not as hardcore as they used to be. But I still think that statement is valid to a certain extend...

In Pokemon games, pressing the A button as fast as possible would improve your chances of catching a wild Pokémon with any ball...
Every kid I knew back then would be mashing the A button like a madman when trying to catch a Pokemon... :l

There were a lot of Pokemon related myths back then

Mine was definitely the "Mew can be found under the truck that is in the S.S.Anne harbor if you use Strength on it" legend from the first generation of Pokemon. I was so mad when I learned that it wasn't true.

NBA JAM and MK. This was when it was at a crazy high for me...

All of the Michael Jordan rumors, Beavis and Butt-Head team, PBS to get Barney the Dinosaur, etc etc etc

I also remember someone telling me about a "BLACK KICKBOXER" in Mortal Kombat. Turns out that was another EGM prank. Google "Nimbus Terrafaux"

The 5 I remember falling for were:

1. Goldeneye 007 - Getting to the distant island that can be seen relatively clearly with the Sniper Rifle in the Dam stage. After a ridiculous amount of time spent trying to get there my friend eventually bought a Game Shark to get it done.

2. Zelda OoT - I spent even more time with the same friend looking for the elusive Purple/White tunic. For some reason I think we though it was near the desert temple entrance because I remember spending a ton of time there and accomplishing very little.

3. Super Mario 64 - Sooooo many hours spent searching for Luigi outside the castle. We would get a star and then run around outside looking for him everywhere. Oh well maybe 2 stars will work......nope. How about 3!! etc.

4. Banjo-Kazooie - This game was the worst because it was the most plausible. Stupid Ice Key and Giant Eggs!!!!

5. Sonic & Knuckles - A friend and I rented a ton of games to insert into the top of this cart to try and unlock some sort of secret game. I dont even think we played most of the games we rented because we were so focused on finding that perfect cart that would let us get a new Sonic game to play.

There's so many relating to the first-gen of Pokemon games, some have been mentioned, but they got increasingly outlandish as each was disproved.

I think the final straw for most was the supposed process in which to unlock the Pokegods, which involved things such as taking a flat-head screwdriver to parts of the game's rom and chipping away particular bits, or another required one to leave their cart in the hot-press wrapped in a towel for a certain number of hours. From herein, it just became a transparent attempt at trolling.
