Glad to see both of you posting, even if it is over a frustrating issue. I did find a Hong Kong site with replacement laser assemblies for the Dreamcast, but they're used assemblies pulled from other Dreamcasts, and with shipping they're no cheaper than finding a unit locally. Heck, you could probably hit Craigslist and come up with one. $25 should get you a working unit.

I wish Craigslist would have one. I live in a smaller town, so that'll be a rare site. I just took a peak and its all current gen and NES's (weird). I just swung by Ebay, and there was a pretty nice looking one for $25, said it was tested. I ordered that one and prayed it'll be good. I'll continue working on my faulty one and use it for parts or something if I can't get it to work.

Thanks guys. If anyone has any other advice, feel free to post it anyway. I would like to fix the old one still just in case the new one decides to do the same thing.

I've heard tales of the front controller board shorting, so it'll be good to keep the old one around simply to have a replacement for that. Mine is still intact, but I don't know about longevity.

Yeah, i cruised a LOT of DC vids on youtube recently, and it's made me sort of paranoid about mine, however i'm just going to play and enjoy it as long as it lasts.

Still, an upshot from those vids is that was inspired to attempt a custom paintjob. Hope to post pics once it's done.

Yeah, I finally figured out how to correctly turn the laser, and it isn't that hard. I just had a bad one.

I'll be looking forward to those pics. I paint some of my controllers. It's really fun and you can have neat results. :D

Yeah, i think i'll definitely do the controller as well!

I'm part-done with the machine itself- although part needs to be sanded off and resprayed, as i was trying to do it using a fine paint pen, but it went on unevenly, so looked crap. For the most part, it looks pretty sweet so far, though!

Hope that i'll finish it tomorrow morning, so will try to get some pics up then!
