Yeah, but it's not the same as the post-apocalyptic feel that Dark Knight Returns has.AppleQueso wrote:A story about an aging Batman coming out of retirement would be kinda redundant following Rises, a story about an aging Batman coming out of retirement.BurningDoom wrote: I say they go with The Dark Knight Returns. We've seen campy Batman, we've seen trendy Batman, and we've seen serious Batman. What else is left? And the story is a good one. I think Batman is mainstream enough that they could get away with a story this plot-heavy.
Besides, you're getting an animated adaptation anyway.

Don't ignore the part about the fact that you're getting an animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns!

Re: What do you want out of the next Batman series?
I was talking to my wife about this and how DC/WB wants a Justice League movie.
I think a DC needs to use the new Superman movie as the blueprint for the movie universe, so until we see that I don't know what kind of Batman I would want. Also, DC has been more successful with TV (Smallville) so I would love to see the new TV Green Arrow along with the upcoming Booster Gold TV star to be featured in the movie. DC should make a couple more TV shows based off characters like the Flash, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman and then use them beside the "big" movie stars in a Justice League flick. TV would fuel the movie... it worked for Star Trek back in the day.
In the end I would love to see Grant Morision's JLA take on Batman in a JLA movie, or trilogy.

I vote for this. I take back my Dark Knight Returns suggestion. JLA would rock if done right. I see it being even better than Avengers if they get the right talent attached to it.SpaceBooger wrote:I was talking to my wife about this and how DC/WB wants a Justice League movie.

And I completely agree on Morrison's JLA being the perfect choice for it.

But will the new superman lend itself to merging with an extended universe? Superman was greenlit under the knowledge that the dark gritty batman films were box office gold. But now with their hurry to repeat the avengers success, they've learned that more lighthearted team based popcorn flicks are box office gold.
Im still not sure that the batman movies people want to see are of the same tone as the batman in justice league movies they want to see.
I personally would prefer that they keep justice league separate from the individual franchises unlike marvel. Marvels movies have all had more or less the same tone due to that intent. Do we want every new DC movie to be stuck with the style and tone as Man Of Steel just so they can bring them together as a team every 5 years?

Sooner or later DC will realize that chasing success by copying the tone of Avengers is just as much a mistake as chasing success by trying to copy the tone of Nolan's films.Jrecee wrote:But will the new superman lend itself to merging with an extended universe? If DC was really serious about making a quality JLA movie, they'd have hired someone like Paul Dini to write it. Someone that fans actually respect who knows how to write the characters. Instead we get a guy who's wrote a handful of episodes of Castle and nothing else.

I'm still wondering why they haven't just made bruce timm overlord of all dc comics related movies.

I would rather see individual Batman stories than another trilogy.

We don't need to see yet another origin story.Bradtemple87 wrote:Batman Year One, and not the animated movie
