Re: Video Pinball
I had never heard of The Pinball of the Dead (!) before these last two posts. Totally getting that.

You must get it. Now!!!!!

Re: Video Pinball
It is a fun game and worth getting, but from the type of comments I see in these boards about it I think it is a bit overhyped. I personally did not like the ball physics in that game, it always felt a bit off to me.ExedExes wrote:Wowretrosportsgamer wrote:I had never heard of The Pinball of the Dead (!) before these last two posts. I think the GBA Pokemon Pinball game and the GBA Muppets Pinball game have better physics - I would suggest getting those instead (note though that the Pokemon one is not so good for scoring, if you are a veteran you can play indefinitely in it as getting extra balls is very doable). The theme is fun and the tables are interesting, but I also liked the themes and tables of the other GBA pinball games I mention here (have not tried the Mario one, there is also a Sonic one which is pretty decent).
Ivo.
Re: Video Pinball
The GBA is just one of the finest pinball platforms there is, the L and R buttons make it super easy to flip.
POTD I enjoy very much, physics aside, it's just how they managed to blend the HOTD2 elements in and for an early GBA title Sega put a lot of love and fanservice for those who follow the HOTD series in it.
Good to know there's a few more besides Mario and Sonic. I was also interested in Pac-Man Pinball Advance, but it has gotten bad reviews for a lot of poorly implemented elements.
Of course, there's that Pinball Challenge Deluxe that's only available in Europe I previously mentioned -- ports of the classic Digital Illusions Pinball Dreams/Fantasies titles.
There's also some generic, non-licensed GBA pinball games such as Pinball Advance.
So yeah, you got a GBA, you're set !

Re: Video Pinball
I finally had an opportunity to visit Pinballz Arcade in Austin this weekend. What a great place.
I spent time on:
Pinbot, Bride of Pinbot, Black Hole, Gorgar, Firepower, Genie and plenty of other tables.
Let me just say that video pinball is a blast, and I've learned the rule sets of many tables this way - but a real ball cannot be emulated. Between spin on the ball, an unpredictable bounce or minute playfield divots that ball will surprise you quite often.
Another patron was kind enough to explain Eight Ball Deluxe to me. Classic pinball. I hope that game makes the transition to the Pinball Arcade.
And I saw an Exed Exes arcade cabinet there and thought, "HEY! I know a Racket member with that in his signature!"

Nice games, and some from the Pinball HOF collection there too. You're right, video pinball is great and fun and very good to practice on but nothing will ever beat a real, properly maintained table.c0wb0y wrote:I finally had an opportunity to visit Pinballz Arcade in Austin this weekend. Eight Ball Deluxe.... last time I actually played that was in the mid 80s and this was back when pinball machines had 2 credits/25 cent slots on them
WHAT-WHA? ExedExes! Hope you were able to play it! I've never seen the real cab out in the wild. I've always had to play it on classic collection cabs/games. Still one of my top shmups!

From the Pinball Arcade FB page:
Brace for it 360 players - add-on packs 1 and 2 should be released today!
The update for the launch tables is schedule for August 2nd.
So I purchased the Bride of Pinbot & MM pack yesterday - and FORGOT to play them. These kids of mine are going to bed a few minutes early so I can rectify that situation. As a 360 player I've been waiting a LOOONG time for these releases. Totally jealous
of you PS3 guys.

Re: Video Pinball
Yesterday and today I picked up Rollerball (NES), Virtual Pinball (Genesis), and Super Pinball: Behind the Mask (SNES).
Oh, and I had to get a SNES to play Super Pinball.
I've been wanting the console for a while now. I had a bunch of duplicates and games that were not as enjoyable as I'd hoped which I traded for store credit. I'm really loving the Super Pinball game so far!
Bonuses: The console is super nice -no yellowing of the case to speak of. I'll also finally be able to play the Donkey Kong Country and Super Metroid that I bought months back!

Re: Video Pinball
Kaze also made Last Gladiators and Necronomicon (import only) pinball on the Saturn. They are superior to Super Pinball IMHO. There is another Super Pinball game, but I haven't played it.c0wb0y wrote:Super Pinball: Behind the Mask (SNES).
