Ketsui Death Label (DS)

Post by Doctor Fugue »

Sorry, I didn't post this earlier. I'm getting slow in my old age.

Ketsui DS finally has a date. October 23 in Japan; thankfully the DS is region-free.

It is actually called Ketsui Death Label, and is NOT a port of Ketsui (unlike the port coming to the JP 360), although many elements are the same. It is a boss-rush game, and has been developed by the generally-great team at Arika.

Play-asia's listing doesn't mention the limited edition with the DVD, but perhaps it soon will. There are other sites that do list a DVD (but in fact I believe the DVD is a super-play taken from the arcade game).

Now, of course a Cave nut like myself will get it, but F#@$ I hate having to use the DS's d-pad. I can't go diagonal to save my life.

Nobody wants to discuss this game?

What do you think about it only being a boss rush game?

No other Cave-heads around?

Want to discuss Nanostray instead? (I don't)

Okay, okay, does somebody want to rig me up a device so that I can plug a USB arcade stick into the GBA slot and have it override that shoddy d-pad?

...

Anyone for tennis?

I just might have to re-buy a DS for this if I can find a lite for cheap :p It's a shame it's just Black Label, but probably to be expected given the DS hardware - looks like i'll need to buy a JP 360 or an arcade cab if I ever want to experience Ketsui properly.

Thanks for the reply. I was getting lonely, and the shmups.com forum is too big for me.

It will be a little strange since the game will fill up one of the DS's screens, making it a non-vertically oriented game. Now, because the distance from the top and bottom of the screen will be much shorter, most of the bullet patterns have been adjusted.

I would really prefer to have levels with popcorn enemies to chain together, but oh well, shooting is shooting.

I also thought that Cave recently doesn't like doing home ports of their games, so why would they allow a gimped version on the least-powerful system with the smallest screen? I suppose the answer is money, but why not churn out ports for their other games on PS3 and 360? Those 2 coming to the 360 later are a good start, but there are lots of others. How about a compilation? That would sell like hotcakes.

Are they trying to stay exclusive? Then why release something on a system everybody has?

Yay! Something other than Nanostray to play!
I'm gonna have to track this down -- thanks for the heads-up!

Ketsui is still non-EMU'd right? It's still a $1K plus game? Some of the 360 ports have been 'neh IMO, I wonder if DS can do it right. I'd rather have it on my tate Astro City, maybe this will drive the price down...NOT!

It's true Ketsui is unavailable for emulating (last time I checked). And it certainly does cost well over 1000 for a good board.

I'm not sure which 360 ports you are talking about, since there aren't any Cave ports on the 360 (until at least the end of this year). Although I'm not sure what 'neh means...so perhaps I am misunderstanding you.

Let me know when this drops in at Play-Asia, and I will pick it up so we can talk about it together when we get it.

It's available now at Play-asia and some others for pre-order. The shipping date appears to be October 23 or 24. I don't know if it will sell out; probably not.

I'm a pretty big fan of cave, so I looking forward to both Death Label and I praying that the 360 version of Ketsui and DOJ are actually made, and make it to the states if they do not, I will buy them anyway.

Death label looks pretty amazing for a DS game even if it's jsut a boss battle those games do not bother me, as I think I'm the only person alive who though Chaos field was actually a really good shmup.
