I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm playing it again. As far as MMOs go it's not bad, but it's very old-school.
I'm playing on the Cerberus server, for anyone that played back when it originally came out but gave up on it, they did make it a lot easier to level up (albeit it's still not WoW/LotrO/SWTOR).
Does anyone else play it still? If so, anyone on Cerberus? That's where I'm at, would be cool to find someone to group with through here (I can't ever find anyone on server to group with, I suck at asking I guess).
If anyone does play it but hasn't bought Abyssea yet, or if anyone wants to give it a try, I do have one Product Key for the full game with all expansion packs out currently. It comes with a really nice helmet that gives you a speed boost, and auto-regen/reraise through level 30 (so you can save it and use it with any job through level 30), making the beginning levels much easier.
The game was discounted on Steam and I wanted a PC copy of the game so I picked it up, lol.

Re: Final Fantasy XI
Outside of about half of last year, I've played since NA PC release. Actually had a few older LS members come back in the past couple weeks. The expansion announcement seems to be pulling some people back, despite that it's not due until next year.
Not on Cerberus though. Originally Pandemonium, now Asura (main and mule).

If they would ditch the monthly fee, I would be in.

Re: Final Fantasy XI
FFXI was the second most fun MMO I have ever played. The first being EverQuest. I think the main thing I enjoyed about both of these games was the very strong incentives for having a full, efficient party. You can't really survive on your own in these games, or at least you couldn't back when I played. World of Warcraft was too easy. My friend and I duo'd it to level 60 and were able to easily do everything in the game alone except dungeons.
I had a level 55 thief/ninja (along with almost every other job levelled to around 20, of course) before I gave up due to the boring required quests. We had a "static" party for the whole game, which definitely contributed to the fun.

The challenge in wow isnt in leveling up nor in 5 man dungeons, it's in doing PvE and PvP. It used to be a lot more grindy than its nowadays.Zing wrote: World of Warcraft was too easy. My friend and I duo'd it to level 60 and were able to easily do everything in the game alone except dungeons.

Re: Final Fantasy XI
I'm loving FFXI more now then I ever did (I played a little back when it first came out).
The big thing now (at least on Cerberus, my server) is going to either Gungen Mines or Crawler's Nest and doing pages from the books there. The first pages are easy to do, and there are lots of groups doing them with Level Sync on (to keep people at a lower level so they continue gaining exp).
I'm a Dark Knight/Red Mage (I solo'd the game to 43 so I needed the RDM heal spells), and just on Sunday, I got my Dark Knight to 50, got help from one of the other people on a Crawler's Nest group and their level 99 friend, and did the Limit Break quest so I can get to 55, then got my Red Mage sub job from 32 to 40. All that would have taken several weeks easy back in the day, if not longer.

Re: Final Fantasy XI
I'm hoping for an Xbox 360 re-release; even though the PC version is supposedly better, I prefer playing games on consoles.
I want to play FFX before giving XI a shot and if it's the only way to play, I'll go for the PC version... but I hope I don't have to!

The PC one is supposedly better, but I play on 360. the controls on PC take some SERIOUS getting used to. I guess you can configure it to play with a controller, but it's a pain.

It's fairly easy if you have a Directinput controller, and not a 360 (XInput) controller. I've set it up with a PS2 controller on a USB adapter on a whim before.KoLAddict wrote:The PC one is supposedly better, but I play on 360. the controls on PC take some SERIOUS getting used to. There are several variants on the keyboard controls though, including a new KB/mouse one I haven't tried. I'm used to playing on just the keyboard though, type a lot of commands and such. Controller is very limiting to me.
Re: Final Fantasy XI
I haven't played since Promathia. A patch came in so that Beastmasters couldn't juggle pets properly anymore, so I just unsubbed. I still have a lot of happy memories of the game, though. It's been tempting to go back, but I'm not keen on the third party payment options they have in place.
