Shooting in Colorado showing of The Dark Knight Rises

Post by J T »

Did you guys hear about this?

A guy shot up a movie theatre and killed 12, injured 50+.

This freaks me out for a number of reasons.

1. The shooter is well educated and functions well enough to be working his way through graduate school, so I would think he would be less likely to commit these crimes.

2. He was dressed up in vinyl and a gas mask, so he was mistaken for someone in costume at the Batman premiere.

3. I have fears about this sort of thing happening to me whenever I'm in a crowded place like a movie theater, but I know it almost never happens... except when it does.

I feel so bad for all those people and their families. :(

This thing makes me so angry. The movies are supposed to be a place to get away from bad things happening in your life, dammit. I hope this guy pays a heavy penalty for what he has done.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Yeah, I just read about this. Very scary. So sad...

I just hope it doesn't spawn any nutjob copycats :?

The article on Yahoo news that I read said when police apprehended him in his car behind the theater he told them he was "the joker"

All I can say to this is, just because someone is well educated doesn't necessarily mean that they are any less likely to be crazy or that they're any less likely to be stricken with a mental illness.

That said, this entire story is depressing and I feel so sorry for those poor people and their families :(

Less likely isn't the same as won't. I direct your attention to the numerous instances of genocide throughout the ages by educated people.

I mentioned this in the random thoughts thread, but when I first heard about it I thought it'd happened here in my city, and that actually scared me a bit.

So horrible. I can't even imagine what possesses someone to do that sort of thing.

If this is true, then the guy was simply out of his damn mind.

Just realized, this could have happened at the Comic Con with the costume. The bastard is still alive and got arrested, should be turned loose to the crowd.

He was pursuing a PhD, but he did withdraw just recently apparently.
