Can't say Anne Hathaway has ever made me think of John de Lancie... but then, I've never seen John without a shirt on.

...So you won't see TDKR. Right.

Just got back from seeing The Dark Knight Rises. Totally amazing. It's bigger than TDK, both in length and in scope. I was sceptical of Bane as the villain, but he was done for better than he ever has been before. There were several unexpected plot twists, and the ending manages to tie up everything. It's as good as TDK, possibly better.
And I love how they managed to give the Riddler another cameo.

Absolutely bonkers..First death threats to critics, now actual killing sprees. What is it with this mass hysteria?

Welcome to the 21st century.

This is exactly what I said was going to happen. Writing a review right after seeing the movie that makes it sound better than it was.
So much of the movie doesn't make sense Boring. You know how the next villain is going to catch and find Robin? He'll just look his name up in the phonebook.

Have you ever seen a more forced romance? Catwoman's origin was pretty convoluted, and putting her into a male prison because "a female prison can't hold her" is silly. But this is a Nolan Batman movie, so at least one jail break is required.

Batman's reason for not being Batman goes against everything in Begins, so does Alfred quitting.

And Nolan left the top spinning. Batman is dead, Alfred is fantasizing.

That said, I enjoyed the movie.

Watched THE ARTIST again with friends who didn't want to see a silent film. They loved it. Who wouldn't?

THE ARTIST remains flawless. The direction, angles, framing, story, characters and their development, lighting, pace, having three consistently great acts...It is an absolute delight from beginning to end.

Every frame of the film is a piece of art. Every scene has something to do with the story. And it even does the impossible: make you forget that John Goodman was Walter Sobchak or Dan Conner.

THE ARTIST deserves every accolade it has received, and it is an utter shame that more people haven't viewed it because it isn't "a talkie".

Even on a second viewing, it had the same impact on me. It was great seeing my friends watching the film as well. Everyone was leaning in towards the screen with a fist under their jaw and a smile on their face. Around twenty minutes in, my buddy Pringles said "Dammit. Please pause the movie, I gotta pee", and just to avoid any other pauses, everyone took a trip to the throne.

THE ARTIST isn't a rental, it is a keeper.

Damn I loved Rises.

It's got its flaws, sure, but the high points more than make up for any shortcomings it has.

I gotta say, though, in response to Luke saying the film seemed to drag a lot in the middle, that the film could've been cut down to a solid hour-and-a-half... No way. Just, no way. It actually felt really brisk to me. I find it interesting that Luke says the beginning and end are the strongest parts, while I personally think the beginning is the weakest section, mostly because of the pacing.

Is it better than Begins or TDK? Honestly, I find it hard to care. It's incredibly satisfying as a conclusion. Some people (Luke) are going to think its a pretty big step down from the first two. Others I think are going to make a strong case for it being the best out of all of them. It's definitely the most emotional and has the biggest stakes. I like it just as much as the other two.

Just gonna directly respond to some of what Luke said above. BIG spoilers btw:

Doesn't matter. There likely isn't going to be a movie following this one. Besides, it seemed to imply that Robin/John would just take up the mantle of Batman himself anyway, or even go as Nightwing, not actually run around as "Robin"

I disagree. That's really all I have to say about it.
And Nolan left the top spinning. Batman is dead, Alfred is fantasizing.
I... guess if you want to see it that way? What was the point of the scene where Lucius is told that the autopilot was fixed by Bruce Wayne if we're supposed to think Alfred is hallucinating?

You just saw it didn't you? I knew this was going to happen.

Okay, time to defend my position:
Did you not roll your eyes when Blake said "Robin"?

Did you not laugh your ass off that Wayne's Lambo was being towed, like he had a bunch of payments left on it?

Did you not think it was so fucking redundant that the audience had to be told Wayne was "broke" over and over and over and over and over and over and over?

Was the Talia reveal not blatantly obvious since she snuck into Bruce's room and tried to take over his empire?

Okay, the scarecrow cameo was great, but I have no clue what Boring is talking about a Riddler reference.

Wasn't Banes demise stupid as all get out? Wasn't it even sillier that all he had to do to prevent death was to just reattach two tubes?

Wasn't it odd that cops with guns ran at a mob while wailing their batons instead of shooting?

Kind of weird no one has found the "bat" on top of the roof of a building for eight years.

Bad writing that Batman would leave so much shit to a guy he's known for less than fifteen minutes.

Everyone on the planet except Gordon could figure out Wayne was Batman. That's dumb.

This is the "most emotional"? Hubba-bubba what? If Alfred shedding one tear means more than Bruce losing Rachael, or him losing his parents....just wow.

Speaking of, why would Wayne say to Robin "The mask helps take care of loved ones", when all of his loved ones have DIED horrific deaths?

Why did TDK spend so much time saying "not everyone can be Batman" and TDKR ends with "anyone can be Batman"?

And again, too predictable. This had little to do with anything but a scene or two (just two actually) from Begins. This is just another Batman movie really, not much of a continuation.

I could go on and on and no disrespect, but the plot holes are more than just a plenty.

I disagree with almost all your points, Luke, and thought it was leaps and bounds better than The Avengers as well. TDK was better, but this was excellent and easily on par with Begins.
