Indiana losses another vintage game store chain.

After more then 20 years of service the vintage game store chain mcVans has shut down. They sold everything form Atari 2600 games to PS3 and systems.(had a few new in the box lynx games I was plaining on buying) seems like it is becoming harder and harder to buy vintage games without using ebay. Original store even has a giant pac man on the front. I wonder what will happen to there inventory as when I went by they still have a good amount left.

Well that sucks you're losing an option. However I found this quote in the article telling.

“A lot of kids have phones or iPods, and they’re just playing $1.00 apps instead of dropping $40.00 on a Game Boy game.”

There aren't that many GB games that are worth that much.

I purchased a grey brick gameboy and like 10 of my favorite games for about $40 from a local used chain. Can't imagine paying that much for a single game.

Still sucks to lose local used game stores though. I'd be really sad if my favorite local store had to close shop, I've been shopping there for at least 10-12 years.

It's a shame, I used to order things from them even though I lived far too far away to ever go in person.
What I remember is that they had awesome customer service and would replace anything that didn't work and would actually tell you if a game came with the box/manual. It was way better than Funcoland.

That was only rare gameboy games, most were under 20 dollars. I mean there is another store but they only do common systems like the PS1. McVans was the only place around that had a little of everything. I got most of my rare consoles and game from there like my Neo Geo games and Sega 32X games.

exactly. They even let me bring back a game the same day I had traded a system for it and gave me the system back. you could tell there employes were classic gamers unlike some stores. If I remember correctly there prices on handhelds were not bad. 70 or so for a DS lite last time I check. Paid 35 for my Saturn and 20 for Dreamcast. They had started in 1992 with 300 retail square feet, 100 video games, and a 5000 dollar home improvement loan they opened the doors to a new and exciting idea, buying/selling/trading video games.

Not so much price but scarcity. Finding some GB games at any cost is its own challenge, let alone complete.

I used to make an occasional day trip down to Fort Wayne to hit up all of the McVan's...but I guess I'm not anymore. The employees were friendly and I found some good deals there, although those gigantic orange stickers they put on the back of cartridges were always a mess to take off.

I always eyed those new Lynx games in the Maplecrest/Giant Pac-Man store too, but never made the plunge. They had so many weird things in the center case; it was an interesting place to browse around.

You guys are lucky though, there isn't even a shop here that sells PS1 games anymore, nearly not even PS2 games and no used systems.

There is only 1 vintage game shop in Iceland and it doesn't sell any consoles, only PS1, PS2 and PS3 games and PC games.

Poor me. :/

But sad when people lose the store they've been shopping with for over 10 years! That just sucks! I remember 5-6 years ago when my local Modern video game shop sold PS1 games, good times. Now only used PS2 games on there.
