I can't say I've ever seen a John Wayne movie, but 'just starring' in them doesn't necessarily excuse one from any messages the movie might give.

Playing a skinhead in a movie that learns something and mends their ways or ends up on the receiving end of some justice is one thing. Being in a movie that actively promotes hate and white power is completely different.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Spoilers:
Lucked out big time and went to an advanced screening. Maybe "lucked out" isn't the best term.

If you remember, a few months ago I listed my predictions of the film, some of them rather silly and quite frankly, well, predictable. Most were true.

It's not bad by any means, but Marvel's Avengers blows it out of the water as Avengers actually has superheros on the screen most of the movie. For a Batman movie this has little Batman in it, making it a bit of a chore to watch as the running time is three hours, or three days...something close to that.

Hathaway steals the movie. I wouldn't go as far as saying she is the saving grace of the movie, but she was great and a needed addition.

You edit this down to an hour and a half and remove Bruce climbing a tunnel a dozen times, you've got yourself a much better film. It opens strong, ends strong, but muddles around a lot in the two and a half hours in the middle.

I think a lot of you might disagree with me because the last ten minutes are pretty amazing and with the reveal of Robin you'll leave the theater thinking "the payoff was worth it", but considering the movie is less than 10% Batman, I don't think so.

The batpod/tumbler/ stuff is pretty good, but think the races were better in TDK. Bane releases every prisoner in Gotham, so the Joker is back out there, maybe?

I'll buy the blu-ray to complete the set, but this is my least favorite Nolan Batman movie. As previously stated, it's good, just not quite up to par with the earlier installments.

Don't forget that the Texians were inhabiting historically Mexican land and a large part of the conflict stemmed from the inability to keep slaves under the Mexican constitution. Interpretations of the moral justifications for the war are obviously going to differ depending on your view of American imperialism.
Sure, I get your point. But its the same as looking at ANY revolution and the pride behind winning it. The Mexicans took that land from the native peoples of the area, and arguably forced the natives to become Christians or die. You mention "American Imperialism". Remember the fact that the point wasn't to leave to join America, but to leave in order to be free of Mexico in general... America came later.

The original goal was to re-instate the 1824 Constitution, actually, but then the American kicked in and we just took it. That's not to defend the Mexican perspective; you're right, I don't think either side had any stake in that land. But then, I think the biological need to divvy up land and lay claim to it is stupid.

What is so unbearable about Anne Hathaway? I'm not a fan of most of her movies, but she's usually just fine in them. I didn't care for her take on the White Queen in Alice in Wonderland, but otherwise, she's pretty much a "whatever" for me.

For me it's the eyes.. They look like John de Lancie's but with none of the character. And the fact she's yet another mediocre Hollywood actress nails it for me. Skip skip skip!
