I just got back my newly refurbished PS3 today and I am trying to hook it up to my switch box and for some reason i have no picture. My old ps3 worked just fine. For some reason this refurbished one doesn't. Pisses me off!! (I have my Wii, Ps2, Dreamcast, Ps3) all hooked up to the TV.
I unhooked the Ps3 cable and plugged it into my ps2, and presto it works fine. (i am using a S-video connection) I tried it through 3 different switches to see if that would help. Dreamcast works fine, ps2 works fine, wii works fine... Ps3 doesnt work though. It works when i do a direct connection to the TV though.
If anyone is following what happened to me this is accuatly the 2nd refurbished ps3. Cause the the first refurb. was broke. This ps3 works except for this funky issue. And for the record, my first refurb didnt work through my switchbox either...
Anyone have this issue at all?
PS3 and game switch box
Re: PS3 and game switch box
Make and Model number of the switch box?
SVideo pins sometimes break so I suspected it was the cable from the switch box to the TV. However, you mentioned the other consoles work. The PS3 works with a direct connection so that cable seems okay too. Maybe how its plugged into the switch box, a marginal connection or the box itself has poor connections internally, just enough resistance to not pick up the PS3 signal? You definitely should get this resolved, maybe even get another box. Plugging in a SVideo cable a few times will eventually break a pin or two.
Out of curiosity does your TV support Component or HDMI? The PS3 will look better at a higher resolution, even the PS2 can go Component.

Re: PS3 and game switch box
PS3 Fat CECHE01 (semi b/c)
I have a old switch box that uses S-video as the best resolution. I haven't seen one yet that does component. That would be nice.
I do have 2 TV's my upstairs TV does HDMI (bed room) our downstairs TV is old school. But it is 32". And it best connection is component. But my downstairs TV seems the most gaming action. I tried the connection that uses the PS2 on and just plugged it into my PS3 and nothing (i think there is sound though) And when i plug it back into my PS2, the picture comes back. Weird!!

Turn the system off
hold down the power button for 5-6 seconds until you hear a second beep

Re: PS3 and game switch box
Tried that. I know that it resets the input connection.. HDMI back to composite.. that didnt work. Anyone else here have a switch box?
Re: PS3 and game switch box
If the TV does support Component, you can get a component switch box which is common at most stores.env963 wrote:I have a old switch box that uses S-video as the best resolution. I haven't seen one yet that does component. That would be nice.

Thanks, I might buy a different box, one that supports component.
Re: PS3 and game switch box

Nice! Enjoy HD for your consoles.env963 wrote:Got in a new switch box with component, haha it works with this box. Not sure why the last box it didnt work. However i didnt hook it up S-video, i did component. $20 later.... oh well, i have it working the way i want. Thanks for the suggestion.
Your SVideo port is now free for a direct connection of the Dreamcast. At least until you pick up a VGA box for it.

Re: PS3 and game switch box
It wont be HD, because its my old tube TV (non HD) but i do sometimes bring it upstairs to enjoy on my HD tv as well. Depends....on if the TV is in use or not. But at least ill get component output vs S-video which is just slightly nicer. Ill probably have to change my hook up to Xbox/Dreamcast/Jaguar/PS2/Saturn now. LOL Putting the PS3 on the same connection as the DVD player. (component)
