What was the last movie you've seen?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I couldn't put my finger on why, but this is one of my least favorite Coen movies. I think they're just better at writing "idiot blunders way towards resolution" than... Whatever they did here.
They didn't take very much liberty with this one. They stuck very close to the book here. I know many who prefer the older, John Wayne version, but I prefer this one. I find John Wayne annoying, and over cliche. Plus, the girl in the John Wayne one is presented as much dumber and about a thousand times more annoying.

Wow, just wow. I'm not a huge John Wayne fan or anything, but don't you think piece of shit is a bit harsh?

To the extent that anyone who knowingly produces and promotes propaganda is a piece of shit, no. To the extent that he is renowned and worshiped for creating propaganda, I think "piece of shit" is putting it mildly. And double for Chuck Norris.

Wait wait wait, are people seriously hating on The Searchers? That movie was great.

What propaganda are you talking about? Like I said, I'm not a John Wayne fan, I don't have a clue what you're talking about.

Big Jim McLain, The Alamo and The Green Berets are the most direct ones, but in a more general sense his embodiment of "The American Spirit" throughout the career played a large part in people's perception of what that is to this day. I know that, for example, my own cousin would not be enrolled in a police academy were it not for John Wayne. I'm sure there's more specific examples but those are the three I'm most familiar with, and I have no intention to watch any further John Wayne films.

wayne had issues of "working with nigg**s" and "actual ingin*s".

I'd place him under "intellectually inefficient" and "bigot". Unfortunately, this wasn't an issue when he was a star.

I'm not sure what John Wayne was like on a personal level, and I understand what sabrage was saying about his movies, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it propaganda. Showing patriotism in a movie isn't really propaganda, as far as I can see.

The Green Berets might qualify. Of course, it's not really any worse than the Vietnam movies that propagandize for the anti-war position.
