What was the last movie you've seen?

It's a poster.

I don't care as much about the "dark" style as compared to one hundred shots that are "speed up, slooooooow mo, speed up". I need to revisit Watchmen, as last time I preferred the animated comic to the movie.

But Synder's style could work with Supes, especially the "speed up, slooooooooooow mo, speed up" formula. Just as long as it isn't super dumb like the eye bullet thing.

I know it's just a poster, I'm not basing that "I'm worried it's too dark" thing on that. My worry just comes from this idea in the back of my mind that WB is going to go "Hey, Nolan's Batman movies were really dark and people liked those, we should make this really dark too!"

My ideal Superman film would probably try and mimic the tone of All-Star Superman or something. A DCAU kind of tone would probably work for me too, but that's about as dark as I'd like it to get.

Watchmen I dislike more and more the more I remember it. The comic feels very grounded, gritty, and real. Zack Snyder's ultra-stylized and sleek visuals are anything but that. I feel like he didn't really understand the source material well.

Ah! I see where you're coming from now.

Your questioning is very reasonable, and I won't hear much more for a few months (heck, people at SDCC know more than I do), but I doubt it will be dark (unless Darksied is the main villain to set up JLUSA, but that would take probably a year to re-write that in, plus shooting/locations/etc).

But DC Studios is nuts. They scrambled to get JLA off the ground after The Avengers made bank (not that Rises won't surpass it). They already need to reboot Batman and introduce new characters whose movies have been financed and cancelled before distribution years ago. But who knows? It's a flip of the coin most of the time, but I see bright farms and skyscrapers surrounded by a bright blue sky scattered with cumulus clouds that resemble marshmallows.

Or it could suck. The new "S" emblem looks atrocious, but it is only a poster...hopefully.

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better. Superman is supposed to be a bright inspiration, that's the point of his character. To make him in a dark-tone, like The Dark Knight, just isn't Superman.

I would love a properly done trilogy or quartet of Superman movies based on AllStar Superman. That would be ultra-badass.

Seen the movie dog soldiers. Probably the only werewolf movie I like so far since they actually look like werewolves and not wolfmen. I'll take rubber suits and robots over CGI any day!

I'm not sure what is meant by dark:
CCI: "MAN OF STEEL" FOOTAGE REVEALS DARKER SIDE OF SUPERMAN
"While this first peek at Snyder's decidedly darker take on Superman was, at times, goose bump-inducing, most of the clips were too short to properly gauge what the film will bring. There's a lot going on -- Clark's youth, the discovery of his origin, the introduction of a romance and (presumably) a villain -- but nothing we haven't already seen in previous renditions. Still, it's enough to keep expectations tempered. For all of its stunning visuals, the teaser reads more like a "best hits" than a promise of new life breathed into the material."

All the reports I've been hearing about the movie and the script seem to suggest that they're going for a darker tone.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it.
The casual American theater goer has already forgotten about Superman whatever it was. See?

There was a ruckus about the Spider-Man reboot because the media honed in on "Rami's stuff wasn't bad, do we need this?".

Superman has been far from super for a while, and this reboot could boost the character's popularity by making him a little more "dark, or as I like to say "interesting". Is Bale's Batman any "darker" than Keatons? Nerp

For sure MAN OF STEEL will be a very bright movie with tints of dark blues at times, but it won't be Superman as The Crow.
