new ps3 model
Re: new ps3 model
I think it looks alright, but what it really needs is a wood matte finish, like the Atari 2600. I'm also happy to see that the top loader concept has not died.
Re: new ps3 model
Looks good to me. Not everyone needs 1000gb. I use my PS3 solely for Netflix and online gaming. Besides GT5. I haven't installed jack.
Re: new ps3 model
To be clear, I completely agree - at this stage of the game, that little storage in a PS3 is a serious limitation for an avid gamer.avrame wrote: At least with a 4GB xbox, you are able to play all your disc based games, as installation is optional; but for a system where a good set of the high end games require data install, I can't see this unit flying off the shelf for anything but a Blu-ray player that can play PS3 games on the side.
That said, the system did launch with a 20GB low-end model, and a 16GB budget model now wouldn't be terribly removed from that. Not that a downgrade years later is good, but more that developers had that consideration to make before requiring multiple GB installs.
Having an integrated 16GB of flash memory could open up some nice possibilities too. Like maybe being able to mount a drive from a dead PS3 and transfer save data before initializing it to work in another system.

Looks like that thing matches this http://kotaku.com/5927310/unboxing-the- ... /gallery/1
Maybe it can use it for storage instead?

I'd probably get it if it's $150. Maybe I'll throw it in my Home Theater system

True, but the majority of the launch games didn't require an install either. The few that did were under a gig usually. I got my 60gb at launch, and filled it with movie trailers and demos and stuff. It wasn't until a year or two ago that the massive install requirements started to take it's toll on my disc space.
I'm going to agree with avrame, the 16gb is to compete directly with the 4gb Xbox. They'll probably bundle it with the move over the holidays for $199 or something. They probably would have gone with a 4gb solution, but I can think of quite a few games that wouldn't even work with only 4gb.
I'm also going to say that the pictures are fake. They look like photoshopped edits of the original phat PS3. I've always thought that Sony made "sexy" looking consoles, and this isn't one of them. My guess is that it will be a top loader, and probably not a whole lot bigger than the slim PS2. Now THAT would be awesome.
Re: new ps3 model
Rumor has it that it might be $150. But Sony has always been to be a little optimistic on the price.Mephikun wrote:I'd probably get it if it's $150. Maybe I'll throw it in my Home Theater system
If it's $150, it will really shift the market. Fingers crossed, hopefully they can do it.

If it launches for $150, I'm sold. I need to put my phatty away anyway. (for nostalgia sake) Here's hoping the old fat beast can hang on to its life for another couple of months. LOL.
