FEAR really nailed the look of a corporate office building. Unfortunately for you, the real world is quite dull, so we probably shouldn't base our escapism off of it.

No, office buildings are dull.

Dead Space 1 is such a borefest, and the PC port is absolute pants. I'm having second thoughts about playing the sequel on the 360 which I have had collecting dust for about a year now. The story is clichéd crap, the combat a dire chore, the characters unlikeable, and it's not scary in the slightest.

I know, but I've seen it that people mention TPS games here, perhaps since both formats are so similar these days that the topic header can be changed to reflect this.

All the levels are ridiculously simple and it seems like a joke. I guess I should have known, but I expected more from old school FPS games.
I impulse bought that one back in the day (this was after already owning GoldenEye and Perfect Dark), and I was severely disappointed.

I am very slowly making my way through Half-Life, with the intention of playing through the whole series. Maybe by the time I'm done, Half-Life 3 will have materialized. Also, I just played through Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 solo (although I haven't been able to beat The Sacrifice yet).

Most of the love MOHU got was due to how few decent FPS games the PS1 ever got.

I started playing Crysis. It was first released 5 years ago, but I haven't had a computer that can run it until now. The game still feels pretty fresh though. I really like the open world shooting. I actually enjoy restarting at a checkpoint after dying because then I get a chance to approach things from a completely different angle. The graphics still look great and the gameplay is challenging and gratifying at the same time. I really love the being able to switch to cloak, run into a room and take out a bunch of guys before they realize where I am, then switch to maximum speed and flee the scene to the hills, pull out my scoped rifle and pick off the rest of the enemies as they slowly come outside and attempt to find me. That sort of gameplay is awesome.

I've also started playing The Darkness II. I really like it, but (and I don't say this often) it's too violent. It's not that I can't handle violence, but the game is so fetishistic about its gore that it distracts your attention away from the rest of the game, which so far, is excellent.

^ ran through Crysis 1-2 myself just last month. Overall, I definitely prefer the first game. The second one is built a lot more like a CoD game or something, one way ticket level design with triggered events everywhere and stuff. The modern classic "game plays itself" thing. The openess of the first game was more refreshing.

But, aliens kind of ruin both games. Luckily they don't come in until much later in the first one, but the fun just completely disappears when that happens. In the second game they were more humanoid, but literally took up like half the game and there was only three different types, so it got pretty old. By the end of both games, I was really glad they were over.

As funny as it is to say (since I don't praise this one or anything), I might say I like Far Cry 2 over these.

Sorry if I spoiled the aliens, but I highly doubt you'll come back here to talk about the plots.

I gave up on FEAR 3 myself, I think I should've bought The Darkness II instead.

I think it is a good idea to make that warning though. I think anyone interested in playing Crysis should know that no matter how much you enjoy the game, the aliens drag it down. Think of it like a PSA.

Amongst the Medal of Honor games, I like MoH: Airborne the most. It gets overly sappy at times, and once you finish your initial objectives, the levels become very linear. Plus, it is short. But the paratrooper mechanics for being able to land anywhere and pick which objectives to pursue first...that was an awesome idea.

I considered picking up FEAR 3 during the Steam sale, but opted for Serious Sam 3 instead.
