Re: Strategy & Mecha Games
If you have a Wii, perhaps the virtual console release of Military Madness?

Has anyone played Chrome Hounds? It looks interesting, though it gets panned in some aspects and I've had it suggested that the singleplayer doesn't hold up well.

The single player is excruciatingly boring, and the multiplayer servers are permanently closed. Avoid it like the plague.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Has anyone played Chrome Hounds? Re: Strategy & Mecha Games
I loved Chromehounds, and although it doesn't really stand up to Armored Core IV or V (current gen competition), especially with the online gone now, it's a really great mecha game. It's not nearly as bad as IGN or your nearest "play a game for 30 minutes and review it" site will make it out to be. It certainly has it's flaws, and yeah the visuals aren't much to write home about, but it's good fun and a solid game. The single-player is no Metal Wolf Chaos, but it's not nearly as bad as Murakumo or some cash-in Armored Core games.
Really though, if you want to give a current gen mecha game a go, look no further than Armored Core V, especially being that the online is still alive and kicking (even without the online, the single-player is great fun). No mecha game has crossed the line between sim and arcade action so well.

Are you confusing C&C3 with Red Alert 3? They're two totally different games, with an expansion pack each. They don't improve on anything already found in C&C Generals, but are fun in their own peculiar way. The cinematics in particular, if they're your cup of tea that is.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I'm also in need of some clarificaton when it comes to Command and Conquer 3, because it looks like theres about 4 games named that.
Also, you can check out Supreme Commander 2. It's a watered down sequel and more console-friendly.

If you like lots of dating sim dialogue and cut scenes with your strategy mecha and can withstand a horrible fake Texas accent from one particularly talkative character, then Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love (PS2 or Wii) fits what you are looking for.

It's essentially a visual novel with occasional mecha strategy sections. And it has JP voices on the second disc of the PS2 release, if you want to avoid a horrible American accent.J T wrote:If you like lots of dialogue with your strategy mecha and can withstand a horrible fake Texas accent from one particularly talkative character, then Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love(PS2 or Wii) fits what you are looking for.

Got about halfway through the video, but my ears were bleeding so badly from that shitty as hell forced accent that I had to stop lest I passed out. Looks pretty boring honestly.MrPopo wrote:It's essentially a visual novel with occasional mecha strategy sections. What's the point of those if they don't have hentai scenes in them again?

In this case it's the mecha strategy battles.
