One thing I liked about the show was the large african american cast. So many of them did an excellent job making the show very realistic.

Officers Daniels, Greggs, Moreland, Freamon, Carver, Colvin were great.

Omar, Marlo, Proposition Joe, Cutty, Poot, Bodie, Wee Bey, D'Angelo, Poot, Michael, Randy, Duquan.

Snoop played her role well but I couldn't stand her character because of the brutality.

I enjoyed Colvin's "experiment"

My roomate watched the whole season of wire in one week, all nighters. I didn't because I was watching 21 Jumpstreet the series.

Finished season 2, it's pretty good. A few notes with spoiler tags:
That shoot out between Joe's boys and Stringer's boys was wonderfully chaotic, not like the staged shoot outs you see in most TV shows

Brother Mouzone and the Greek, great characters they introduced there

Ziggy killing G G, didn't see that coming, even though I knew that dipshit was stupid and unstable.

They killed my boy D'angelo  Damn you Stringer Bell  You need to get got.

When I saw Frank sitting with Daniel's detail after talking with Russel, my first thought was, "You stupid fuck." If I've learned one thing from watching two seasons of The Wire, if doesn't pay to be a snitch...unless you're a badass like Omar. Well, we know how that worked out for Frank

Were you surprised by the relative inattention to the major characters (e.g. McNulty) from Season 1? I thought that move in and of itself was ballsy by Simon and jarring by most TV standards. That he pulled it off really impressed me.

I only got that impression in the first episode, but that was it. I didn't feel that the main characters were ignored that much in the season as a whole. I think the season actually struck a really nice balance between staying with the main characters while also telling a new story with new characters. I saw enough of Mcnulty and company to be satisfied, while also getting really invested in the new characters and their story lines.

On a completely random note, since there are some wrestling fans on this forum, I had to crack a laugh at seeing former WWE wrestler Vladimir Kozlov (real name Oleg Aleksandrovich Prudius) in a minor role in the last episode of season 2. I had to hit up wikipedia just to be sure, but it was him. Love random sightings like that.

Other things I found interesting in season 2
It's funny how Nick is furious with the Greek for his dad's death. Yet, he's sitting with the cops spilling out everything he knows, and it never once occurs to him that they are every bit as responsible for his father's death. I found that ironic. He really doesn't understand "the game."

Russels manipulating Frank to go and talk with her people, them offering him a deal to spill what he knows about The Greek, that led to his death. In fact, Valchek creating that detail and obsessively trying to bring Frank down was the beginning of the end for Frank. That began the series of events leading to his demise. I'm just saying, a certain type of individual could have just as easily turned his anger and grief towards the cops.

I don't know, I guess I'm just looking at the big picture. You can point to more than one source for Frank's death. Of course, you could also just blame Frank himself for choosing to go into a life of crime. The dude basically "broke bad" and it bit him in the ass. I love Nick lying about Horse. The Sabotkas loyally protect their own no matter what. Sad to see the FBI really bring down the union, ending the season on a rather melancholy note.

Also, Omar meeting Brother Mouzon was just an awesome scene. It was like watching two samurais finding mutual respect. They are both honorable warriors and they really acted like it in that episode, especially when Brother refused to tell Stringer who tried to kill him, though I think he may have picked up on the fact that Stringer sent him.

Ziggy is a total douschebag. Seriously, at no point did I ever feel empathy for him.
Okay, time for me to start up season 3 :D

I love The Wire. It's easily one of the best TV shows I've ever seen. I think seasons 4 and 5 were the best, but the first three are still great.

One of my favorite aspects is how the characters are more complex than most TV characters. Like how McNulty is serious about doing good police work and is a really likable character, but he's also a complete fuckup in his personal life. Or how Omar seems like a good man in many ways, despite the fact that he's killed dozens of people.

There are definitely some elements of the show that are just good for drama, but it almost always feels seriously realistic. I also love how the show pretty much requires viewers to watch a whole season, because one episode just isn't enough.

Man, now I want to rewatch it.

This is one of my favorite TV series of all time. Each season was so interesting in how to examined crime from all different angles. Loved it!

I couldn't imagine having to watch The Wire on a one episode per week basis. There's so much going again, I feel like being away from the show for seven days would make me forget something important. I pretty much always watch The Wire in two to three episode viewing sessions.
