Marvel 3D games?

Hi all.

I've dabbled with a few fighters in the past: Toshinden, Tekken 3, Soul calibur. I know that the x-men and Marvel Super Heroes titles on dreamcast, saturn etc are hugely popular but I much prefer 3D fighting games over 2D ones. Has there been a 3D Marvel type fighter game made for any consoles? If not why not? I love the Marvel themes, universe and characters but just not a big fan of 2D fighters...

Xmen Mutant Academy 1 and 2 for the PSX platform as well as their sequel "Next dimension" released on the PS2, GCN and Xbox.
While these games are 3D polygon based, they are restricted to doing battle on a 2D plane. It also seems developer "Paradox" took some major cues from Capcom's line of Marvel 2D fighters, as their Mutant Academy series plays almost like Capcom's Marvel Vs. games. From the Magic Series combos to the Ariel Raves... These games should have been named "X-men COTA EX"

I personally find the first 2 titles to be very fun enjoyable, but not something i'd recommend...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is one of the funnest comic book games for the current gen. It's not a fighter though, more of a beat em up.

The only 3D Marvel fighter I can think of is Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, but it's really, really awful.

Thanks! It looks like Next Dimension will be the best choice for me. Shame they didn't come out with a Marvel Super Hero version of that to stand beside the X-Men game. I'll keep an eye out for it on GC anyhow.

I was so hyped for it and it was so bad I never pre-ordered another video game ever again.

I watched a couple of youtube vids for it and it looked very repetative.
