Arcades in San Jose

Post by Anayo »

Hi.

I'm going to San Jose for the very first time on Saturday. I want to find some arcades there that I can enjoy. Does anyone have any advice for the best ones in the area?

There is nothing in San Jose, but Milpitas Golfland has been around for a long time

They seem to be pretty legit as they offer Initial D, Some awesome rail shooters, SF4 AE and Tekken 6BR!

Have a Great Trip

Meh, I consider Milpitas as part of San Jose, it's simpler that way. All of those places over there, Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, etc. it's easier to just refer to all of them collectively as "San Jose."

There is a San Jose Golfland I think actually, I could be wrong though. I know there's also one in Sunnyvale. Frankly, I'm not a huge fan of the Golfland arcades, they tend to focus a LOT on music games and fighting games, mostly street fighters, not my cup of tea. Not nearly enough Neo Geo, or shmups even!

There's a really rad arcade in San Mateo I believe, which isn't too far from SJ. They're more on the shmup side of things, which is right up my alley.

There's also some retro game shops in SJ, but stay away from Space Cat, they've got a decent amount of stuff, but pretty bad prices.
My Want List!

Consoles: Sega Master System, NES Toploader, Genesis/32X, Sega CDX, SNES, 3DO FZ-1, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, Sony PS2, Nintendo Gamecube, Xbox Halo Edition, Wii, PS3
Handhelds: Atari Lynx, Sega Nomad, Neo Geo Pocket Color, GBC (Atomic Purple, Pokemon Edition), GBA (Pink OG, Silver SP, Spongebob SP+), DS (Phat, iXL), 3DS, PSP (1000, Go)

On a semi related note is the San Jose Flea Market still there? I bought some retro games there, some were imports.

I haven't been there in a while, but Sunnyvale Golfland was always the best in the bay. Capcom used it as their testing ground back in the 80s and 90s since their headquarters is nearby.

Oh man, don't let the yuppies hear you lump Shallow Alto and San Jose into one.

There is. It's by that infamous train crossing.

The one where they stop traffic just for a two-car light rail train to pass? It always looks funny to me.
