Hey, just popping in to ask some questions. I've been wanting to get some more 360 shmups, and I figured this one would be next.

A. Is this hard to get ahold of?
B. Where should I be at price-range on this to not be upside down?

A. Easy. it's on eBay and even Amazon I believe. You want the PAL version which is region free.
B. It's about $30-$40.

Dudes, I watched the high scorer replay on XBLA and it's evident that I have no fucking clue what I'm doing in this game. I'm basically playing for survival, but there's obviously a lot more happening.

For one, it looks like there's a way to shield yrself and absorb bullets??? And what's the deal with Hyper? How does it all work?

Maybe Chaz can give us the basics, cuz that thread he linked spun my head.

That replay guy destroys all of our scores on the first level alone!

EDIT: reading through the manual now, and it reads like a calculus text book. The scoring in this game is serious. But yeah. I'm definitely enjoying it a lot.

I believe the shield is only when you're in Power style, which is what I like to use. When you initiate your hyper and use rapid fire/button mash, you absorb bullets. I'm not sure if the color matters. If you rapid fire enemies that are unleashing swarms of bullets, you get cancels that drop stars.

I don't think that shield is available in Bomb style, but Strong style is a mix-up between power and bomb.

yup, sounds right fvgazi. I read through all the tips in the manual. Initially I was playing just very "shoot stuff, don't get shot" to get comfortable. But it sounds like for scoring, building up the meter and then going into Hyper to cancel bullets and keep your chain going is super important.

Ok, here are a few tips.

As you noticed, using Hyper allows you to cancel bullets (of any color, although the more hypers you use, the harder it is to cancel bullets). Each bullet shot will add to your chain, as well as enemies and uncovered bees.

Here is the trick though. When you are in hyper, or when you are out of hyper but do not have a full hyper bar, your chain is very flexible. If you mess up chaining, it will slowly drop. However, in this mode, your chain is actually NOT being applied to enemies killed.

Once you have used the hyper and built up a nice counter, its time to start actually chaining. If you fill your hyper, but do no use it, you will go into scoring mode (There is nothing to mark this, just having a full hyper meter). Now, your chain will be applied to kills, but if you mess up chaining, you lose your entire chain, like the old DDP games.

The Ship Types:

Bomb: Basically the normal ship.

Power: Allows you to change your strength between Bomb style and Strong Style. However, you don't get bombs. Your bomb button instead switches you between shot styles. This is definitely the hardest mode to play, although it does have the highest scoring potential.

Strong: Pretty hard to chain with in some parts, but I'd say this is the ship to start with. You get large firepower, and bombs.

Gold bees give you points (xMultiplier), and green bees fill your hyper meter. Point blanking with your laser aura (on any side) fills your hyper extrealy fast.

I have no idea what this "shield" you guys are talking about is, but that grid looking box around your ship is just there to look cool.

Hope this helps a bit. :)

the thing I thought was a shield is the circle around you when in Hyper mode that indicates how much longer you are in Hyper.

BL changes everything. I'll go over it when I'm back at a pc.

Its probably the most different BL.
