Re: Official Racketboy Suggestion Forum Thread
I vote no and here's why. My browser window is fairly large, taking up most of my 1600x1200 screen. Here's what Noises's post and Racket's reply look like to me with a browser window that's 1422x1008 pixels:racketboy wrote:Can we come to a consensus?

So yes Racket is quoting, but that's how it would more or less look with 2 people using a tag from that site. There's barely any meaningful text, the vertical space is mostly taken up by just those 2 images and the normal header and footer stuff that goes with each post. It looks even worse in the default layout:

Just look at all that wasted real estate! If someone has a smaller window and some tool bars installed it will be even worse. I want to read what people are posting, not spend half of my time scrolling past people's tags. Yes I could block images from that site, but I got a good impression when I first showed up because that crap wasn't here.

Another vote for no to large signature pics and I use a lot of reference images in my posts.
There are other sites that use large picture signature links and even multiple avatars with unnecessary animation. A real pain scrolling past the same signature picture five times in one page. I think the small signature image and single avatar is enough to make each member's post recognizable. I imagine smaller Tablet and Cell Phone users will really have a tough time paging down.

I have the forum option enabled to turn off signatures. Is there a reason why Dave/Hobie/CRT couldn't do the same?
Personally, I do agree with the sentiment that it's annoying to see a page that is mostly full of 1-2 line posts and signatures.

I leave it on, like seeing the signature links, as long as not huge. A quick way to see a member's system interest, Sale Thread or off site blog.gtmtnbiker wrote:I have the forum option enabled to turn off signatures. Is there a reason why Dave/Hobie/CRT couldn't do the same?

Most people have useful links in their signatures that go to their sale or other pet project threads.gtmtnbiker wrote:I have the forum option enabled to turn off signatures. Is there a reason why Dave/Hobie/CRT couldn't do the same?

Exactly. I don't want to have to disable all signatures just because of an obnoxious handful.Hobie-wan wrote:Most people have useful links in their signatures that go to their sale or other pet project threads.gtmtnbiker wrote:I have the forum option enabled to turn off signatures. Why does someone need to have a signature larger than what is already allowed? A large signature impresses no one and pisses of many. What's the point?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Are we considering the RFGen or Backloggery sigs annoying? They do technically contain relevant information about our gaming lives, some of ehich we might want to share.

I think the current ones are fine an unobtrusive. That one Noise posted is a monstrosity though.Ack wrote:Are we considering the RFGen or Backloggery sigs annoying? They do technically contain relevant information about our gaming lives, some of ehich we might want to share.
