Saturn USB pad

Post by 123soleil »

Hi all,

The saturn pad is generally considered to be the best pad ever. Unfortunately I missed out on the SLS Saturn USB that were sold on ebay a few years back (and were getting rave reviews).

Are the ones that are for sale now any good? There seems to be 3 different models:

- playsega:

- White no name:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-WHITE-PC-MA ... 257224e281

- Retrolink
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-Saturn-SIL ... 3f1995cc5b

Are these pads any good?

Another option would be to get a usb adapter to use with an original saturn pad.

Which is the better option?

I got a PlaySega pad a while ago when Sega was promoting playsega.com. It's terrible and broke after about a week. Even though it's by Sega, it's a really cheap reproduction.

I can't vouch for the others, but I'd suggest the Saturn-to-USB adapter.

Those USB pads (all of them) are pretty cheap knockoffs, a USB controller adapter is your best option. I don't know how good the one you posted is, however. I myself use one of these:

And have no complaints. They're pricier than I remember though, I think I got mine secondhand from a user on this site.

Hi, first post here

I just received a new Saturn USB pad with the Sega logo on the face and a SLS sticker in the back, I bought it from an HK seller for only $20, I asked him if he had any more left, he told me that it was his last one :(

I'm surprised by how well it works with the PS3, holding it was weird at first, because of how small it is.

Don't bother with the knock-offs, bought one from Retro-Link before, it was just horrible, the d-pad wasn't well attached to the controller and it also didn't function properly on the PS3.

Btw, I should be getting my Saturn for PS2 pad in the mail next week, it wasn't cheap, I'll be using it on my PS3 with a converter.

My Playsega one is very well built IMO (bought from the site when the hype started about them)... Can't find anything wrong with it. Still, the originals with USB adapters are slightly better. A Mayflash adapter with a good condition original is as good as it gets unless you want a 3D pad adapter with analog pad and shoulder support, then S_K_U_N_X can make you a BlissBox.

I almost bought one a while ago but I remember reading a lot of negative reviews so I decided to just stick with my xbox controller. Seems like I made the right choice!

I have this. Poor quality, cheap brittle plastic. The buttons rattle when you shake the controller. Wouldn't recommend it at all.

Yeah, the best solution for this controller is to buy it and swap out the PCB with a official Sega controller shell (ideally from a broken one.) If you manage it right you have a nice Saturn USB pad for about $20 or less.

Not sure if this site is legit, so buy at your own risk

I just received my Saturn-Style Pad for the PS2, it's a bit heavier than the USB one, I also noticed that its d-pad was better, but the shoulder buttons were not as responsive for some reasons, works well with Street Fighter, but not so well with Mortal Kombat.
