I bought a Dreamcast without a VMU, and was disappointed when I couldn't play any of my games... I ordered a VMU from the store but I don't want to leave my Dreamcast unplayed.
Any games (that are good) that do not need a VMU to be played?
Is there a Dreamcast game that doesn't require a VMU?

Any arcade style games.

So, like Street Fighter? I apologize, I'm new to this

As long as it isn't a game you need to save because it is long and you aren't going to complete it in one sitting, you don't need a VMU. So any action or arcade game. Sure it will complain you can't save your scores and options, but you can just go past that.

Alright, thank you. I guess I'll pick up a fighting game while I wait for my VMU...
Thanks again!

Actually, I don't think any games really "require" a VMU. Obviously you can't save without one, but I think most games will still let you play even if you don't have one, since they don't care if you save or not.
You still need one though, because they're just awesome.

yeah, there are some third party vmus with no screen.
and there is an official Dreamcast one with 4 pages of memory. No Screen tho.
Having the little screen is much nicer.
Just remember that the battery life sucks on those vmus. It doesnt affect saving games, just that you wont be use the screen outside of the dreamcast.

Well, that makes it a MU, no visual.

Sega Swirl
Or that might require it too ?
But what the rest of the thread has said, unless it's a game that is long and involved with numerous stages/checkpoints/whatever or if it's one that is going to have unlockable features, it would just save options and settings so you would not have to go back and reset them every time you started the game up.
Each one holds 200 blocks, so unless you get a lot of games or a sports title that saves an entire season (100 blocks or more), you'll be good to go.

I got Unreal Tournament, I don't play tournament mode because of the lack of saving. I think this should hold me over until my VMU gets here... Thanks again guys, and I'm going to look into a x4 card too so I can save some other games I'm interested in, like Half-Life (Which I heard has insanely huge save files).
